I'm not an MD but in the med field for a while. I actually worked for the company that makes effexor. The ativan, effexor, lithium, and trazadone are typical combos for what you described. However, i would agree that a Psych would be best to treat bipolar. Also, mixing with other drugs on his own is obviously not good. Other than that, I completely sympathize and send mom thoughts and prayers your way.
