question about detox

My AH is a binge drinker. He only drinks beer. He will drink for days at a time. Over the past year he cannot seem to get off of the alcohol on his own. He used to be able to "taper off". I get so angry because day after day it's the same thing and he ends up getting blitzed again because he is trying to "taper off". So, for the last year I have taken him to the Emergency Room more times than I can count on my fingers. He claims he needs help to get off the alcohol. I feel he is trying to take the easy way out. I am so sick of all of this. Can somebody please offer any words of wisdom?

Thank you.

Withdrawal from alcohol can be life threatening. He needs to be under a doctor's supervision because alcoholics can have seizures. Hope that helps. Hugs, Marle

Well, the hospital just called and they are releasing him. They haven't given him ANYTHING and they say there aren't any beds in rehab open and to call tomorrow. He told them he wants to stay because if he leaves he will drink. They are refusing it. I just talked to the nurse and demanded that they at least give him something to help him get through tonight but I got cut off. I am so mad.

tell them he's threatened his life. then they HAVE TO take him! if he's wanting the help, i'd stop at nothing to help him get it! ohh, and that's just my OPINION. not medical advice!

Well he is back home. They ended up prescribing him LORAZEPAM. He took one and about 20 minutes later he said his alcohol craving was gone. He ate dinner and has been sleeping. I am watching him like a hawk. I am still upset with the hospital. They said there are no beds and to call rehab in the morning. They made him feel even lower than he did when he got there. He was there for help and just got pushed aside.

Hi dogfreak.....

Beds in rehab often have a waiting list.
You can call your private doctor for instructions
on how to procede with de toxing.
It's good the hopsital sent your husband home
with medication.

I am glad your spouse is willing to get help.
Has he considered AA?
Have you considered Alanon?

Blessings to the 2 of you as you move forward
