AD got herself into detox yesterday

Miracle. I didn't think she had the ability to do this, but according to her BF, she made all the calls herself. He dropped her off yesterday morning and so far she is still there.

I never, ever, relax when my kid is in detox because she has never, ever, stayed to finish it. (she's 0 for 4)

But God clearly was telling me, "See, you didn't think she was capable of getting in anywhere without your help. You stepped out of the way and she did it herself" so who knows what other miracles He can accomplish? Maybe she will stay and even go to rehab.

I fully expect to be devastated all over again if she walks out/dosen't finish and uses again. This is just reality. I will not be "OK" with it. I will cry and grieve and resume preparing for her death from AIDS.

But for today, I have some hope - a little.

As one mom to another, I can tell you I have been where you are and I will say a prayer for you and your daughter. Your daughter has a HP who is with her every second of every day! It is so hard to let go- I personally have driven myself crazy trying to control my AS and his behavior and all I did was drive myself crazy.

I pray this is your daughter's time.

Hugs and Prayers,

I was really glad to see this post from you. I hope she stays with it, too, but this seems like a really good thing that she did this by herself. I'm hoping this is her time to really want recovery.

Hugs and prayers to both of you!

Amy

All your efforts of taking her to her appts. and to detoxes have shown her how to now do it on her own, Sleepy. Good job.

I'm praying for both of you. I especially like this quote from Ann's post today:

Today, I will let go of my need to stay in turmoil. I will cultivate peace and trust that timely solutions and goodness will arise naturally and harmoniously out of the wellspring of peace. I will consciously let go and let God.

You can look at this way she went to detox herself. That means she is heading to the right path. It is like any of us that have kids they have to learn how to stand on their own two feet.

You should be proud of yourself right now.

When my AD went into detox, she wanted it and her counselor helped her arrange it. I stayed out of her way. She then went off to rehab for a month, her choice. I stood by her but stayed out of her way.
She wanted it, it wasn't easy for her. It meant giving up her way of life and finding a new way, new friends, new bf and the whole nine yards.
It was her journey out of the pit of addiction, not mine. She knew that I was going to detach even further if she didn't finish, even to the point of having nothing to do with her until she could get clean.
She now has over 8 months clean. It was her choice.
I hope it's your daughter's time.
Time to take care of you, for a change...........

Like Blue Pansy, I had no involvement with my AD's decision to go into a 30 day Rehab program and then straight into the half way house.....
I stepped back, got out of the way... I let her drive..... (not a car of course, she lost her license)

Without me at the wheel, my AD became my RAD (60 days sober)
If just for today.....

Hugs,
Colleen

Just curious how addicts pay for detox/rehab when the family or court does not step in.

If an addict is using their own financial recourses instead of diverting funds to their DOC, that seem meaningful. It strikes me though, that so many addicts do not have an resources.
