Update on Son - out of rehab into 1/2 way house

My wife (AS stepmom) and I picked up my son from his rehab problem (finished 28 days) and drove him to his 1/2 way house. We spent about 4 or 5 hours together driving him there, going out to lunch, buying him some clothing and things.

He seems wonderful and continues to show a mental attitude that I haven't seen since this horrible journey has started. Just dropped him off yesterday and am waiting for a phone call to get his phone # and address (There's a few houses on the same block).

I'm nervous, happy and scared. Naranon and its step is helping a lot and I know I can only work on one day, the present at a time. The odds of recovering are alarming, but people DO recovery. If there is a relapse, it also doesn't mean the end of the world. I just hope he doesn't disappear for months if he does relapse.

Sorry to ramble. I am thrilled at where he is. At least he's not squatting at some tenement in the lower east side of Manhattan.

Thanks to all for your prayers and thoughts.

I like your attitude, enjoying today for what it is, a time for joy and celebration.

Not one of us can predict tomorrow, it's not ours to know, but if we live our lives well today we will be healthier and more balanced to face whatever life hands us.

My prayers go out for more blessings tomorrow and every day thereafter.

Thank you for sharing your light.

Hugs

And, like Ann said I like your attitude!
Keep the faith...

hi dad,

I enjoy reading your posts as it gives me much hope for my son ,who is in long term residential care. I also take it one day at a time and right now am asking God to keep him in His care. Tonight I will ask God to do the same for your son too. I believe people do indeed recover and it is my prayer that there will be someone at the halfway house that will encourage your son and be a source of strength for him. It is easy to rehash the past and dredge up past mistakes. I prefer to see the past as a coupon..........sort of like once you "cash it in" it is used up, not good anymore. I am working hard on seeing my son's past mistakes that way. It won't do me any good to dwell on them. It won't help me. It certainly won't help him. So I pray your son won't worry about the past mistakes but take heart in knowing people are forgiven and everyone deserves a second chance and that none of us are perfect but are indeed a work in progress. my thoughts are with you and your family, dixied

This sounds good. You are doing the right thing. Do they drug test in the place he's at? I've heard wonderful things about sober living environments. There's great support and no ********.

Glad to hear some more good news from you!!! It sounds like you and your son are both doing well on your recoveries!

I have almost 11 months clean, and am moving out of my dad/stepmom's house to my own place soon. My stepmom says my dad is worried about me relapsing. I understand his fear, but I plan on keeping my recovery as my first priority, and I hope that, in time, he can relax and not worry so much.

Reading the posts here reminds me of what I put my dad through and that his worry will never completely go away, any more than my addiction will go away. I'm hoping that your son will find as many wonderful, supportive friends as I have (especially here at SR)...it makes all the difference in the world.

Hugs and prayers!

Amy

Sending prayers, support, and hugs.
So glad to hear that your son is heading in a good direction.
Also glad that your letting go and allowing his recovery to be just that...his.
You sound really good. Keep it up.

HD...Isn't it wonderful to spend some time with the son your remember? I'm so glad you had a great visit and that he has chosen a sober living environment. I think this gives our loved ones the best possible chance to continue to move forward and embrace recovery.

Enjoy today and all the todays to come!
