My husband has been clean and sober for 19 years but he has recently started smoking pot very regularly. His behaviour has become almost manic and he has done all sorts of strange things that he would not normally do - i.e., buy a $55,000 vehicle without telling me (from our home line of credit), be up all hours of the night, says he is starting a new business and will make thousands of dollars. It has all happened so suddenly that I feel that I am going insane. I find myself second guessing - wanting to believe him but it is out of character for him. Would pot do this to a person or is he having a breakdown or is he on something else. He is normally a quiet, ordinary type guy but now he has all these thoughts of grandeur. Can anyone give me any advice? Thank you.

Test him! Give him a home drug test, if you can. Then you will know if its pot or what? Doesn't sound just like pot though, esp. up all hours of the night.

Does sound like very odd/erratic behavior. I'm not sure we can ever know how someone reacts to a certain drug.
I would beg him to see a Doctor to make sure something isn't out of sorts aside from the drug use. I've heard all kinds of odd things that can occur form reactions to prescribed drugs, chemical imbalances etc.

Perhaps the pot is laced with another drug? It could also be a paradoxical effect. I have that with pot, and I've never smoked it. I hallucinate when my apartment neighbor's smoke comes in my direction (I live where it's legal so they don't hide their use).

Allow me to tell you my story.
My xah is a college educated man with a real knack for business and for being so darn smart and funny. That's what attracted me to him. HE had an excellent job making over 65k per year.
Well, when I married him, he quit his job. I won't go in to all the horror stories about how he got adddicted to oxys due to some health problems all before he quit his job!
Whoa, if I had known what was coming...
He ran up every credit card. He even put MY NAME on them! Yeah, so now I am trying like the dickens to get all this nightmare off my credit report.
Well, he went to crack and did all kinds of other things. I would up divorcing him before I was completely ruined mentally and financially.
If only I had been wiser to all this.

When the money starts to go, it goes fast. Then I woke up one day and had NOTHING.
Eventually, after the divorce, he lost his beautiful home. All to drug addiction.
It doesn't get better, it always gets worse.

I am sorry you have to go through this, but just protect your assets before they're gone.
