Look after myself?!

I'm so so tired.
I don't even have the energy to be writing this.
People keep telling me to look after myself... but I don't think I really know what that means! I don't know what I'm supposed to be doing to look after myself!

Take care of yourself could mean

Take a walk on the beach
Sit back and read a book
Call a friend for coffee
Get your nails done
Go for an ice cream
Go to a meeting
Sleep late
Eat well

Be well

I agree with above. Sometimes we need to take baby steps to do for ourselves what may seem selfish because we have always put others first. Begin with something simple like sheisanaddict suggested. Just something for you. I pained my toenails one night and felt better. Sometimes taking 30 minutes to do what YOU enjoy. It is hard at first to put yourself first, but you deserve it.

Start with ... when you are thinking about what he is up to...... transition those thoughts... and move them to your life. What you are doing today.... going to do tonight..... and implement those thoughts.

I call my sponsor or get to a meeting when I don't know what else to do to take care of myself. I always feel better after a meeting.

Reading trashy magazines (US weekly, etc) is my No.1 guilty pleasure so I do that, too

Pretend like you are your child, now what would you do?

Many of us will find themselves, on any given day, thinking, "Gosh, I could do XX for him/her, that would make them feel great, so they wouldn't be tempted to use."

Take that sentence and bring it home: Today, I could do THIS for me, so I'd be a happier and stronger person. He can take care of himself today.

I have come a long way. Taking care of myself has meant different things along the way.
At first it was little things I did for myself. Getting my hair done.
Now, it's things like,
Mind my own business.
Don't get involved with anyone who is an alcoholic or drug addict.
Don't lend money to anyone for any reason unless I can afford to lose it.
Don't get in the middle of anyone elses arguement.
Don't allow myself to be manipulated by anyone any more! (this took a lot of practice, and I am darn good at recognizing it, and refusing to play into it)
Don't let anyone use my name on a credit card, or ask me to cosign for them.

Yeah, this is how I take care of myself.

Tabitha,

For me taking care of myself is merely taking a moment to breath.

Take a deep breath and savor that 5-10 seconds of being able to breathe easy.

Tabithacat,
Word. I am in the same boat. Now that I have the time to take of myself I'm not even sure what to do. I;m trying to make a list of everything that was important in my life before all of this and go from there.

Thoughts...

Ok, wee realisation.. it's taken me 2 and half days to get time to come back on here!!

What would a child do? Curl up and refuse to go anywhere until they had slept probably! Nice thought... and it's pretty much what I did on Wed arvo.

I've just started a new job which is crazy busy and leaving me rather uptight. Along with the stress of christmas... not the regular stress... more, I worry about where I fit into it as I have no official family here and tend to work in order to drone through without thinking too much... this year I'm not working. I'm going to christmas with my A's family.

I am going dolphin watching with my friend tommorrow... then I'm thinking finish that cmas shopping and get a massage. Then curl up and sleep with my kitten. Then cook and fill up the freezer! I haven't eaten at home more than twice in the last fortnight.

Oh gosh... ok now I'm writing it all I see why everyone keeps telling me tp chill out and look after me!

Thanks guys... again!
