My as went into the hospital today... Well, I knew from our conversation last night that he was in a bad place mentally, but I didn't expect him to call me from an area hospital psychiatric unit tonight. I'm relieved really. He called last night and freaked out on me because I asked why he won't consider counseling. He wants a doctor to give him medication without counseling. He suffers from anxiety and panic. Which I think is why he started self medicating to begin with. He said that after we argued last night, he got off the phone and felt like cutting off his own head. He went to bed around 11 and didn't crawl out of it until noon today. He said he hasn't felt "right" lately and that's why he hasn't been working. Rather than go to a doctor and attend counseling, he went to the er. Says he has no money for doctors/counseling and that if he goes to the er, they may help him with gettting medical assistance. Says they told him that he would not receive meds tonight, will be evaluated tomorrow and may be there for a few days. He agreed. When he called, there was no apology for last nights outburst. Doesn't matter. I'm just glad he's seeking help. I did ask him if he told them that he was an addict. He got loud and said, "I told them that I use to use, but that I haven't in 2 years". I asked what about the pot and alcohol. Then I said forget it. I'm glad your there and if you need me call when I get off work tomorrow at 5:30. I hope you feel better and I love you. He's taking matters into his own hands. I think I'll back off. Repeating the serenity prayer and the 3 c's. Thanks for listening. Love to all, Linda Wow! 2 threads in 1 day. Thank God for soberrecovery. :c031: |

Linda, I'm glad he's getting some help, he's in good hands now. Hugs for you, and prayers for your son. |
Linda, You're right...he's right where he needs to be...Earlier you said you were back to Step 1...One of my favorite reminders is that the first three steps are "I can't; He can and I'm going to let Him." I see in your post what I've seen in my experiences...once I surrender all over again, HP takes the wheel. Hugs..Relax and sleep well tonight, my friend...Your son is safe. Prayers for your son too. |
Linda, Ya done good! Thank goodness we work on progress, not perfection. I have been known to shut myself down in mid sentence - or mid WORD - when I realize I am starting to get involved in someone else's business. Thank good ness your son is in a place where he can get some help. Prayers that his HP will put just the right person in his life to share the message. BIG hugs Cats |

I too am glad he sought some help. It sounds as if you handled things well. I hope and pray this will be a new start for him. Making that first step to get help says a lot, IMHO. hugs from another mom Terri |
Thanks you all. I appreciate all your thoughts and prayers. I had to work today and told him last night to call me tonight if he could. He called from gf's phone and said they released him with enough seraquil?(something to help him sleep) to get him to October 2nd. When he has an appointment with a "real" psychiatrist. Then, they will decide what medication he needs. Plus, if he's willing to do it, counseling sessions. I can only pray. He also says he has a cold and no cold medicine. I told him to drink hot tea and that I can't drive an hour out there to bring him cold medicine. He's just gonna have to suck it up. I guess that's it for now. I really didn't expect a miracle, but I did think that they would keep him at least 48 hours for observation. He sounded tired, so I guess he's gonna sleep till October 2nd. I don't know what he's gonna do, but I'm steppin' back and lettin' him handle it. I'm too tired. Thanks again for being here for me. Love, Linda |
prayers he continues on this good path of wanting recovery. Hope you get a good night rest, susan |
Linda, My daughter takes seroquil for bi polar. It does make her tired, but it really helps with the mood swings. Maybe if he gets on the right kind of med and the right doses he'll see improvement. They started her out on too much seroquil so she cut it back and feels just right with it now. Still a little sleepy but better. You should be proud of yourself for staying out of it, I know how hard that is to do. Take care, hugs.........Lo |
Its an important step for him to go get help himself. I know the relief you must feel. If the doctor can diagnose him, he can get the RIGHT medication he needs. I am just so glad to hear that someone took a step in the direction of getting help for themself. Hugs to you. WW |
I wouldn't be satisfied with October 2nd, especially since he admitted himself to the ER. That's almost 3 weeks away! I just saw Sicko, and if this were any other country, he would have faster help than this. But that is neither here, nor there. Keep up your spirits Linda. |
*hugs* I'm here for you Linda. :) |
(((((Linda)))) I hope that you're son continues to recover. It all sounds promising. A guy thast I work with is on Seroquel and he does very well with it. Growing up is hard to do. Let Go and Let God. |
(((Linda))) Saying prayers for you & your son. I am glad he sought some help for himself. Love, Diane |
I am glad he is seeking help.... the medication he is on can help with mood swings etc.... hoping he leaves the cold medication alone and sticks with hot tea... those over the counter cold meds can be toxic... especially since he's just starting this new medication.... amazing how our addicts react to any discomfit.... every ache, pain, sneeze, cough, bad mood etc must be ended asap with a pill!! (forgive me as I vent!...) |
