Diaper Derby!!!

Fortieth anniversary. Yep. At our local fair... 36 contestants... 6 'heats' with a championship round at the end.

Here is a picture of the Championship Heat -

Line the babies up at one end, with a "coach" at the other end (screaming, laughing, waving keys....toys....spoons...pets - whatever) and "RELEASE THE BABIES!!!".

Top prize? A brand new washer and dryer... 2nd prize - a wooden highchair and 3rd a wooden child rocking bench... all wonderful. Even had about 4 "consolation" prizes based on names of those entered. Pretty good odds to win something...and all others got a "sippy cup" to take home.

We didn't win. We didn't place... or even show. In fact, the little fart didn't leave the start line!!! He was fascinated by the noise, the crowd and the other babies.

Sigh.

I know *I* got a work out... who knew you could throw out a shoulder waving keys and cups?

What a day!

We are happy win or lose.... Me and He, below...

Glad you had so much fun...He could be like SeaBiscuit ya know, a famous Olympic Track runner in twenty years....

WOW, I want one. Can I have one? Please, Please, Please. What a beautiful baby. But a warning, it seems that somewhere in the jene pool, he has this stubborn independent streak that screams, go ahead throw out your other shoulder, all you're doing is entertaining me. Wonder where he got that from?

Hugs

He is so adorable. I want to steal him from you and just hug him all day.
I can tell you are one proud grandmom, even if he is stuborn and didn't leave the starting line. I wish I could have been there to see it, you waving and yelling to him and having him sit there and just look around.
Hope your shoulder heals soon,

You both look like winners to me with those lovely smiles. He is getting cuter every day and so is his grandma

It sounds like a lot of fun and I'm sure he got his giggles just watching you waving your arms.

Thanks for sharing this precious time with us. I love anything about babies.

Hugs

What a hoot!!! (((Deane))) We just came from our local fair and they didn't have anything near as exciting. Did get a caricature done of babycakes though.

Your boy is absolutely precious and grandma is pretty darn special too

OH thanks for sharing Deane!

He's beautiful and you both look really happy. Those were some really great pictures. Hopefully this is a sign that your grandson won't be one to "follow the crowd"

Beautiful pictures....Beautiful grandmom and baby...You both looked so happy...it's a joy to see!

Our little town had a diaper derby when Kristen was a baby. She was around a year and had not walked yet (Cause she was an awesome crawler...why ruin a good thing, right?) The contest was only open to non walking babies and right before it started, she was standing, holding my hand and started to let go. Didn't think I was a competitive person til then...I exclaimed "not now..you have to wait til later to walk"

Anyway, my husband had a strategy...he was with her on one side and I was at the finish line. He lined her up said "go get mommy" and she took off like a bat out of h*ll. The crowd started cheering and that scared all the other babies, but Kristen was determined to get mommy. She won and we had to wait 5 minutes for the other babies to stop crying and get a second and third place winner. No washer and dryer...just a ribbon bigger than she was that said "(Our town) Diaper Derby Champion."

It was a very fun, memorable day, so I think I have some idea how much you enjoyed this special time with that cutie pie. Hugs.

Big Sis,

Can't you see it? Why, it's written all over his face.

"I can't believe these grownups think I'm going to go after that silly stuff like jingling keys and a waving cup. Where is the good stuff around here, like cotton candy, fudge, the good ole junk food?"

Now admit it. You fed him some kind of junk food and he loved it, right?

Ok, so now you have the edge for the next race. Those other babies will eating his dust...

P.S. Precious, just cheek pinching precious he is!
