Um What am I Missing?
Um What am I Missing?
Did anyone hear about the prisoners in jail who exercise and dance and made the video to "Thriller" and many other songs (YMCA, etc.)...
They are actually really cool videos. The warden decided that they did not have enough activity so he wanted to get them exercising. They didn't take to his
exercising, so he hired a choreographer, and even a transvestite for the role
in the Thriller video. It worked and they all ended up doing it quite well, as well
as many other videos.
But... now there is a huge "Uproar" about it because people say these prisoners
are being forced against their will to "dance".
Many of these guys are in there waiting for trial and have not even been given
a guilty verdict yet, so there could be innocent men being made to dance.
The warden is making them his monkeys.
The other side is that the last year since this started the fighting has stopped, if they fight they do dance fights now. They now listen to the warden, some of the prisoners have gotten tattoos of this wardens names on them. But the violent crime is basically non existant now.
I am not seeing the crime in making prisoners dance??? And they are trying to get him fired and/or make him stop the dancing.
I'm a dancer so maybe I'm baised. But I'm not getting it.
Anyone else see what is wrong with this? or agree he is making monkees out of them?
I would rather someone I loved in prison be dancing to Thriller than some of the other things they do..
I was just wondering what some of you all thought...

They aren't allowed too, Dancing is "Required" which is partially why I think they say he is their monkees. No one is allowed in cells during dance time or anywhere else but on the dance place unless they are physically uncapable.
So, the prisoners are complaining about being forced to do something against their will.. IN PRISON??!! lol. Sounds like the same logic my 17 year old nephew used when he told his dad that he was leaving home to join the military because he doesn't think he should have to follow any rules!
Yeah hope, that's what amazed me. They said the violence was down since the dance started. I guess that's because most prisoners sit in a cell for 23 hours a day.
If they get out to dance for a couple more hours, heck, maybe that's what's needed to work off the stress they have that ignites fights.

That's the thing that I don't get, it wasn't the prisoners complaining, it's everyone else, down to the Mayor...
They didn't interview any prisoners but if they didn't want to dance and didn't like it, I find it hard to believe a bunch of prisoners are going to stop their crime, and get tatoos of this guys name on them because they were forced.
And they sure look like they are having fun in their videos. They are really good!
It just makes no sense to me why people would be complaining and trying to stop it.

I agree, Done...and I suspect none of the prisoners have a problem with it; they are probably thrilled to have something fun to do. If the complainers spent some time confined and experienced the way they are treated...the loss of dignity...the way some staff boost their egos by berating...the way people confined treat each other; then they would probably be thrilled that this man came up with something that works. But complainers like that usually are part of the problem, not the solution.
We live in a pretty senseless world sometimes...I think there are people who need to make a stink about anything...they aren't happy unless they are whining.

They say the prisoners are afraid of the warden and afraid not to dance.
lol, Do you really think that many people are afraid of one man?
We just had a prison close by me have a huge riot, I forgot how many died between 6-10 and over 50 were hurt...
And they are complaining because their prisoners are dancing. OMG...
But your right, some people just like to complain.
I love the idea and think that whoever thought it up should win an award. Of course most men will grumble about dancing, but once they learn how ya can't hold 'em back.
If dancing in prison is the biggest problem the system has, I just say "Thank You God".
I loved the video, by the way. And it appeared to me that the dancers did too.

Thanks, Done.
Loved the videos and think it's a great idea.
They should have all inmates, everywhere, dancing.
It's like music... it's universal.
I love it!

Linda
