songs...........recovery and addiction
songs...........recovery and addiction
There was a thread here once that listed songs about recovery and addiction.........songs that others here liked. After looking for it and not being able to find it I thought I'd start a new thread..........so if anyone can think of recovery or addiction songs or just songs that mean alot to them and want to share that would be great...............
Wasted ---Carrie Underwood
Big Girls Don't cry--Fergie (about working on herself, love this one)

That Smell by Lynard Skynard and The Needle and the Damage Done by Neil Young. Not so much for the words but for the music. That Smell I always yell the Hell Yes part really loudly. It is my way of yelling at addiction. Hugs, Marle
Lyrics for Jumper by Third Eye Blind I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend,
You could cut ties with all the lies, that you've been living in,
And if you do not want to see me again, I would understand.
I would understand,
The angry boy, a bit too insane,
Icing over a secret pain,
You know you don't belong,
You're the first to fight, You're way too loud,
You're The flash of light, On a burial shroud,
I know something's wrong,
Well everyone I know has got a reason, To say, put the past away,
I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend,
You could cut ties with all the lies, That you've been living in,
And if you do not want to see me again, I would understand,
I would understand.
Well he's on the table, And he's gone to code,
And I do not think anyone knows,
What they are doing here,
And your friends have left, You've been dismissed,
I never thought it would come to this, And I, I want you to know,
Everyone's got to face down the demons,
Maybe today, We can put the past away,
I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend,
You could cut ties with all the lies, that you've been living in,
And if you do not want to see me again, I would understand,
I would understand,
I would understand...
Can you put the past away, I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend,
I would understand...
You could cut ties with all the lies, that you've been living in,
And if you do not want to see me again, I would understand.

A work in progress....

This is an INCREDIBLE song. Listen to it here:

Missing Pages by Seventh Day Slumber
On the outside all we see is clay
That hides the perfect light
But no one really knows the pain inside
I understand how much it hurts
To be the one who's never seen
The missing pages in a magazine
No one knows you anymore
You're lost inside the walls you've built
No one knows you anymore
A prison deep within your soul
There is One who sees it all
He'll give you life you've never dreamed
He can see the pain underneath your skin
It's hard to see you fading
Nothing that I do can bring you back
I pray to God that you don't fade away
Your addiction is a symptom of a lost and dying soul
Without Jesus there's no hope at all
No one knows you anymore
You're lost inside the walls you've built
No one knows you anymore
A prison deep within your soul
There is One who sees it all
He'll give you life you've never dreamed
He can see the pain underneath your skin
There's so much more this is not the end
It's all in your hands don't throw it away
A beautiful life with so much to give
The image of God underneath your skin
No one knows you anymore
You're lost inside the walls you've built
No one knows you anymore
A prison deep within your soul
There is One who sees it all
He'll give you life you've never dreamed
He can see the pain underneath your skin

I love this song-it always inspires me! It's all about how life is short and you gotta do what is right for you-now! Henry Rollins is a punk rock straight edger-never got into drugs..This whole album is great!
Artist: Rollins Band
Song: Shine
Album: Weight
If I listened to everything that they said to me I wouldn't be here
And if I took the time to bleed from all the tiny little arrows shot my way I
wouldn't be here
The ones who don't do anything are the ones who try to put you down
You could spend your entire life in the nowhere land of self doubt
When you start to doubt yourself
The real world will eat you alive
It's time to align your body with your mind
It's hero time (until I looked up the lyrics, I always thought he was saying "it's your own time"..)
It's time to align your body with your mind
It's time to shine!
I'm talking to you. Hero time starts right now!
If you think you've got 100 extra years to mess around you're wrong
This time is real. Your time is now. It's hero time.
Hard times are getting harder
The liars are acting strong
You better get a grip on yourself
Or you won't be around too long
No such thing as spare time
No such thing as free time
No such thing as down time
All you got is life time. GO!
I got grace in times of friction
I got truth in times of fiction
I got no time for the hype
Suicide? I'm not the type
No time for drug addiction
No time for smoke and booze
Too strong for a shortened life span
I've got no time to lose
It's hero time
Your own time
time to shine!

Rehab - lol
They tried to make me go to rehab but I said no, no, no
Yes I been black but when I come back I said no, no, no
I don’t got the time
And if my daddy thinks I’m fine
You’s tried to make me go to rehab but I won’t go, go, go
I’d rather be at home with Ray
I ain’t got seventy days
Cos there’s nothing, nothing you can’t teach me
That I can’t learn from Mr Hathaway
I didn’t get a lot in class
But I know we don’t come in a shot glass
They tried to make me go to rehab but I said no, no, no
Yes I been blind but when I come back I said no, no, no
I don’t got the time
And if my daddy thinks I’m fine
You’s tried to make me go to rehab but I won’t go, go, go
The man said why do you think you here?
I said I got no idea
I’m gonna, gonna lose my baby
So I always keep a bottle near
He said I just think you’re depressed
Yes me, baby, and the rest
They tried to make me go to rehab but I said no, no, no
Yes I been black but when I come back oh no, no, no
I don’t got the time
And if my daddy thinks I’m fine
You’s tried to make me go to rehab but I won’t go, go, go
I don’t ever want to drink again
I just, ooh I just need a friend
I’m not gonna spend ten weeks
And have everyone think I’ve gone mad
And it’s not just my pride
It’s just til these tears have dried
They tried to make me go to rehab but I said no, no, no
Yes I been black but when I come back I said no, no, no
I ain’t got the time
And if my daddy thinks I’m fine
You’s tried to make me go to rehab but I won’t go, go, go

There is a very sad song about a personal struggle with addiction, called Pool Shark. The lead singer for Sublime, Bradley Nowell, was an addict. Sadly, addiction took his life. He was a very talented songwriter, singer.

There is also a very good song by Anna Nalick called Breath
2 Am and she calls me cause I'm still awake
Can you help me unravel my latest mistake
I don't love him, winter just wasn't my season.
Yeah we walk through the doors so accusing their eyes
Like they have any right at all to criticize
Hypocrites you're all here for the very same reason.
Cause you can't jump the track
We're like cars on a cable and life's like an hourglass glued to the table,
No one can find the rewind button girl
So just cradle your head in your hands.
And breathe, just breathe, whoa breathe just breathe
May he turned 21 on the base of Fort Bliss
Just today he sat down to the flask in his fist
Ain't been sober since maybe October of last year
Here in town you can tell he's been down for while
But my God it's so beautiful when the boy smiles
Wanna hold him but maybe I'll just sing about it
Cause you can't jump the track
We're like cars on a cable
And life's like an hourglass glued to the table,
No one can find the rewind button boys so cradle your head in your hands
And breathe, just breathe, whoa breath just breathe
There's a light at each end of this tunnel you shout cause you're just as far in as you'll ever be out
And these mistakes you've made
You'll just make them again if you'll only try turnin' around
2Am and I'm still awake writing this song
If i get it all down on paper it's no longer inside of me threaten' the life it belongs to.
And I feel like I'm naked in front of the crowd
Cause these words are my diary screamin' out aloud
And I know that you'll use them however you want to.
But you can't jump the track
We're like cars on a cable
And life's like an hourglass glued to the table,
No one can find the rewind button now
Sing it if you understand...yeah breath
Just breathe, ohho breathe
Part of this song has a strong meaning to me......

When an Angel Sighs
UGH! I can't post the link since my husband doesn't have enough posts logged. But if you go to indie-music dot com and search under song title "When An Angel Sighs", you will get it.
This was on one of the music posts earlier this year. (Maybe late last year?)
We wrote the song together in one weekend, so the production is pretty rough, but it's the sentiment that counts. I'm sure all parents can relate.

Placebo! "A Song to Say Good-bye" is about his friend who became an addict, and he's trying to save him.
"Song To Say Goodbye"
You are one of God's mistakes,
You crying, tragic waste of skin,
I'm well aware of how it aches ,
And you still won't let me in.
Now I'm breaking down your door,
To try and save your swollen face ,
Though I don't like you anymore,
You lying, trying waste of space..
Before our innocence was lost,
You were always one of those ,
Blessed with lucky sevens ,
And the voice that made me cry .
My Oh My.
You were mother nature's son ,
Someone to whom I could relate ,
Your needle and your damage done,
Remains a sordid twist of fate.
Now I'm trying to wake you up ,
To pull you from the liquid sky ,
Coz if I don't we'll both end up ,
With just your song to say goodbye.
My Oh My.
A song to say goodbye,
A song to say goodbye ,
A song to say...
Before our innocence was lost,
You were always one of those,
Blessed with lucky sevens,
And the voice that made me cry.
It's a song to say goodbye.
The album Black Market Music has a bunch of songs about addiction too: "Commercial For Levi":
Commercial for Levi
You’re the one who’s always choking trojans
You’re the one who’s always who’s bruised and broken
Sleep may be the enemy
But so is another line
It’s a remedy
You should take more time
You’re the one who’s always choking trojans
You’re the one who showers always golden (? )
Spunk and bestiality well it’s an assisi lie
It’s ahead of me, you should close your fly
I understand the fascination
The dream that comes alive at night
But if you don’t change your situation
Then you’ll die, you’ll die, don’t die, don’t die
Please don’t die
You’re the one who’s always choking trojans
You’re the one who’s always who’s been bruised and broken
Drunk on immorality, valium and cherry wine
Coke and ecstasy, you’re gonna blow your mind
I understand the fascination
I’ve even been there once or twice more
But if you don’t change your situation
Then you’ll die, you’ll die, don’t die, don’t die
Please don’t die x4
And others, "Narcoleptic", has my favorite line, "You better keep it in check, or you'll end up a wreck and you'll never wake up"
