For Parents who Need Some Hope
Hi, everyone! This is Barbdee (SecretMom), not MrDee, but only his membership is active right now and I want to keep it that way. (I get too depressed reading some of the posts since I still want to "fix" everything...still a codie!)
However, I thought you should know that our AS is celebrating his 6 month anniversary this week. We had totally given up on him and now he is the light of our lives.
So NEVER give up hope....miracles happen every day.
Besides almost dying from pneumonia, I am sure that what has helped him stay sober is being responsible for 7 other guys in his Oxford House. Plus as president, he's also responsible for about 6 other houses in the area, or their chapter.
I think it's somewhat like when they say if you really want to learn something thoroughly, then try teaching it.
I don't have any other advice, except to keep "picturing" your addict well and whole again. The mind is a powerful tool. And never lose hope!
Love, Barb
PS...even though I'm not around anymore, you are all still in my prayers every day and I do keep up as a "guest". :-)

Barbdee...
I've missed you!! Think about you often. So glad to hear your son is doing better. My daughter is also on the path to recovery, so I continue to pray for her, and all our addicts. I just know with everyone praying, it's absolutely making a difference for our addicts!!!
Glad to see ya!!

What wonderful news and story of hope in recovery. My AS is incognito and in no contact mode. I struggle to have hope many days. When I think of him I get that pit in the stomach and sad feelings. Your share is uplifting.

Hey SecretMom,
Thanks for that wonderful story. I'm so happy for your son. I'm a little new, so I don't know about Oxford House. Where is it located and how much does it cost? Is there a certain age you have to be to go? It sounds like a lifesaver. Anything you could tell me would help, as I have someone who is lost and badly needs to find a direction to turn to. Thanks in advance for your help!!
