elana,

congratulations - my husband loves german shepards - we named our dog blaze because of his red color - i think dogs do better with two syllable names - the kids usually call him blazie - (that looks stupid)...

what about .. hmmmm thinking.... col. klink - or colonel - or hogan - or ach tung - sorry german side of brain not working - balto - good boy - doobie???? sorry someone said that at a meeting last nite - that sure dated him huh - good luck with your name...

Cody? (codie??)

I actually loved the name before I got the title.....

my new boy's name is Jax - combination of Jack and Max. He's part St. Bernard, part Rottweiler and part German Shepherd.... 4 months old and already 53 pounds. We expect he'll be a big boy. His feet are huge - def the St. Bernard feet!

Give her a few days and she will tell you her name, they always do, lol

She will show you by her personality and her actions which names to narrow it down to and she will 'alert' to the one she likes.

Please give her a chance.

Love and hugs,

A german shepherd is a noble, loyal intelligent dog with a heart of gold.
Whatever you decide here are some inuit names.
Altaneq means king
Atka means guardian spirit
Kanosak means gold ( heart of gold)

I am taking Laurie's Advice.. see what name will fit her tho I like Atka a LOT and Kashtin too.

My Ex husband was German.. and my Grandmother who loved me dearly was mostly German. The dog is a German shepherd and is about 1/2 German Bred (my last one was 100% German Bred). I don't care for most German words or names.. and I am not sure why.

I guess years of my Ex's family speaking German to try to hide what they were talking about from me might have something to do with it (but I got a book and one day added my English 2 cents to a conversation they were having in German. They knew I knew then and stppoed doing this rude behavior. It was fuunny).

Kashtin and Atka are moving head at this point. I have to figure out a "prize...."

Congrats, Elana!
My three favorite German Shephards in my life were "Heidi" and "Gesse" pronounced Jessy and "Ilsa". They were all wonderful dogs.
How about Liebchen? means my loved one in German. Or sweetheart, dearie, etc.
Oops, just noticed you don't like German names.
Oh well, I tried :-)

the Chosen Name IS..

Atka. She hears it and responds to it!

We took a 2.25 mile walk this morning. She is death on those dandelion seed heads.. she had never seen them before! Dead logs in the woods are dangerous and need to be barked at to make SURE they are dead.. and the Big Creek is both fascinating and terrifying.

Back here she is learning the limits when it comes to cats. No tormenting the cats. No barking at the cats. The cats still rule.. which is sort of funny considering they are declawed. Naughty popped her on the nose and she yipped... (soft cat paw pop?)

She hardly howled at all last night.. but I did not sleep well because the cats did not sleep well.. I got to say.. I am tired. I have my exercise schedule officially increased now to over double what it was!
