Suboxone opinions ???
 

My 21 yr AD is in medical detox right now for shooting herion. They are recomending she go on souboxone. I have read up on this and am a bit concerned. First of all she has taken a couple before ( a friend had some), and actually had 2 in her possesion when she came to my house for a ride to detox. So these kids aren't using it as presribed. Then theres the fact that she can't remember to take her pills on a regualr basis. She is on the BC shot bc of that. She has been on & off anti depressents b/c she can't remember.
At first when I heard about suboxone, I thought wow soemthing that can help. but now I'm wondering if you just trade one set of problems for another. Looking for honest opinions please.

$^&%%*!!! Just got off the phone w/ AD. She said the detox she was in before put her on a wait list. (They couldn't take her before b/c she needed medical detox, but will now give her the next available bed) She is saying that she wants me to come get her & let her stay ot her friends ( a guy I love & trust) untill the other place can take her. I said no, I will get her when there is an opening. She's affraid they will tell her to come tomorrow, cuz that's the one day I can't get her. It's my stepdaughter baby shower, we are cooking for 60 people. Then at noght is her friends one year sober, so he asked hubby & I to attend the meeting.
Lats week she was in the ER & only stayed clean for 3 days. But she is running her mouth saying she will go to a place the med detox she's at now is recomending for the suboxone, for one week & be home after 7 days. She said she can totaly play the system, and will gaurentee she will be home in 7 days. I know she's blowing off steam, but @!*%*%#

Suboxone is only as good as an addict's willingness to work a program of recovery. If an opiate addict truly wants to get clean then I believe that suboxone can help those that repeatedly relapse. My daughter did the same thing with suboxone. I think that they use it as a back up method so that they will not suffer withdrawal if they can't get their heroin. The guy my daughter bought it from sells it so he can get heroin. Something is wrong with the system of dispensing this drug the same as with methadone. Too many addicts are selling it on the streets. Marle

My experience has been the same as Marle's. My daughter has had the "opportunity" to medically detox with suboxone, a dozen times. Instead of using it as directed, she also "saves" it for an emergency.
That being said, it is a very good drug for detoxing. Only staying in a good program will keep them sober - just my experience, and opinion.
But, it doesn't necessarily mean they won't reach out for sobriety. There is always hope. My ad is also 21, currently not sober.

My AS has abused suboxone only when he was in withdrawl and couldn't get heroin. When he went into rehab, they put him on a 5 day taper and he did have withdrawl symptoms for up to 14 days. that was it. they used other meds to manage it. After that he has another 14 days to live clean and sober in rehab and then moved into a halfway house, where he will stay for likely 6 months. I agree that the use of suboxone is only as good as a persons willingness to get sober.

My husband detoxed partly by himself, and then followed up with regular in-patient detox. After he got out he was on Naltrexone successfully for a few weeks. But, he wanted it to work and he was also in an out-patient half-day program. I don't knwo about Suboxone, but Naltrexone works if you are completely detoxed and have the willingness.

i agree with the others, though i only know about crack, but i think that swapping drugs does not work so the choice will be up to your daughter to abuse or not to abuse any drug that is prescribed for her. what is your gut telling you since you already know that she gets it off the streets. i'm still praying for you and your daughter.
