I did it... told my story
Since my mom's been in AA for almost 30 years. I have been to many speaker meetings with her. I always get something HUGE out of each one. Funny, I haven't attended one for alanon.
But, they are POWERFUL, and persuasive. I am glad you told your story. You can be sure it affected someone in a very much needed way.
Way to go!

Thanks for sharing your story...it is amazing and so are you! Your strength and courage and compassion and caring shine on all of us and I feel so blessed to "know" you. You always inspire me. Hugs and prayers
((((((((BigSis)))))))))))
Your one of the first people I met when I came to sr.
Thank you for being there.
You were open, honest, and caring from the start.
Thank you for accepting me so openly and freely.
Giving me the courage and the pride, (for myself) to do things I've never done before.
Like saying no, being loving, but firm and detached, and to actually not feel guilt anymore for it.
For accepting the truth. It's not my fault.
Thank you for that.
I always looked for your threads and posts and found strength and perseverance, when I felt none.
You made me a better mom by your experience, thoughts, insight, and wisdom. You, are a true friend.
Last, but not least...
thank you for being here and helping me on this path to recovery.
I love you, big sis.
P.S. Congratulations on your speech, and showing others what I already knew...
You... are recovery personified.

You've Got A Friend
When you're down and troubled and you need a helping hand
and nothing, whoa, nothing is going right.
Close your eyes and think of me and soon I will be there
to brighten up even your darkest nights.
You just call out my name, and you know where ever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have to do is call and I'll be there, yeah, yeah,
you've got a friend.
If the sky above you should turn dark and full of clouds
and that old north wind should begin to blow,
keep your head together and call my name out loud.
Soon I will be knocking upon your door.
You just call out my name, and you know where ever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have to do is call and I'll be there.
Hey, ain't it good to know that you've got a friend? People can be so cold.
They'll hurt you and desert you. Well, they'll take your soul if you let them,
oh yeah, but don't you let them.
You just call out my name, and you know where ever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have to do is call, Lord, I'll be there, yeah, yeah,
you've got a friend. You've got a friend.
Ain't it good to know you've got a friend. Ain't it good to know you've got a friend.
Oh, yeah, yeah, you've got a friend.
Big Sis,
Thank you so much for sharing that with us. You are such the picture of recovery and what Al Anon and the 12 step program teaches (even though you like those traditions best... )...sharing your experience, strength and hope.
Part of me wishes I could have been there, sitting there in person, listening to you tell your story. I would have been smiling, nodding my head just a little for encouragement. The bad part would have been when I started crying when you told the part about pulling out the Al Anon phone list (crying like I did when I read it here.) You probably would have had to stop and say, "Good gosh, Hangin'. Brick it up. I'm trying to tell a story here!"
Yep, HP put you and me on opposite coasts so you could share, in such a beautiful way, your story without a sobbing friend as a distraction!
I am SO grateful God has put you in my path for you have helped me in so many ways and I bet you have no clue as to how many you help everyday. That is the beauty of this program. I love that saying we hear in the rooms of recovery, "You can't keep it unless you give it away." Thanks for giving, Sis.
Love you,
Hangin' In

I posted in one of your other threads that I printed your story and read every single word last night. You truly are an inspiration and such a wise, wonderful person. Your children are extremely blessed to have you in thier life. And I'm very grateful and blessed to have "met" you in mine.
I do think you should consider writing a book.
You write very well.
