Cynay - I watch ER, you know!! Although it always seem to snow on that show.
I am near Harrogate, England, via Beverley(England), Carlisle (England), Dublin (Ireland), Manchester (England), Ipswich (England), Colchester (England) and small villages in Suffolk (England). Gosh, I've moved around a bit, haven't I?
Did I mention England? We won tonight, btw.

Jazz, why are you throwing stones and shaking sticks at dirty water? Is it some sort of rain dance?

Am I the only Canadian here, eh??
I'm in Toronto -- an absolutely wonderfully vibrant city full of diverse neighborhoods of all kinds that is pretty safe at the same time. Right now, you can't step onto a city street without seeing cars driving around with flags flying representing any number of different countries particpating in the World Cup. And I believe we have the highest number of restaurants per capita than any city in North America!
And oh yeah, all those wonderfully Canadian things that y'all think of us for like maple syrup, mounties, beavers, moose and hockey -- but hey, do you know basketball was invented by a Canadian?

Yes, I am originally from England, and still live here. There's a few of us Brits about (Equus, Susane, bahookie, Five, to name but four.)
There is a need here and in fact, we have a drinking culture that I believe is also only found in countries such as Ireland, Australia, Scotland etc. Binge-drinking is rife and social life tends to revolve around alcohol. Of course, not everyone drinks in a way to cause major problems in their lives, but I do think the environment is pretty tough for people who want to stop.

A village just outside Glasgow, Scotland here.
We invented television, the phone, had the first ever house with electricity, and cloned the first animal. We've got neolithic remains, Roman forts, gorgeous hills, lochs and islands.
Oh and Minnie is right, a binge drinking culture that would make your toes curl.

Hey Teke
Ireland here ~ County Wicklow to be precise. You can take us in on you English/Scottish tour.
Yep, big drinking culture and getting worse all the time.
However! we did invent Guinness so what can you expect?
We're also responsible for some great authors and poets (eg Yeats), fantastic coastline, the Irish sense of humour, and some pretty friendly people (a bit too friendly when they're drinking)
I'm sure there's more I can't think of right now.
What we don't have - leprachauns, donkeys pulling carts with red-headed children and people saying 'Top of the mornin' to ye!' LOL
And we love to talk!

so the leprachauns and other things that you named are all rumors, huh
i watched a movie not to long ago, i think that it was filmed in ireland with eddie griffen or whatever his name is and i thought how beautiful the scenery was, there were a lot of cottages and i wondered if this was a norm for houseing or was it just television?
it sure looks like a pretty place

The scenery is beautiful, Teke, in the rural areas, but we have cities and traffic congestion and noise and housing estates just like any other country - don't believe all you see in the movies!!
It's a long time since John Wayne was here filming "The Quiet Man" - you'd have to go to the far west of Ireland to find cottages now. The norm for housing is crowd as many boxes into a piece of land as possible! Housing is very expensive here.
Still, well worth a visit on your trip! And yes, the leprachauns are most definitely a rumour, otherwise we'd all have pots of gold!
