not good
well, i don't know where to start but things aren't looking good. i got a phone call this morning from my mom's doctor in the hospital. she has a blood clot in her lung, esphogeal varices, extreme cirrohois of her liver, super high heart rate, a hernia, and this morning she started spitting up blood. it was enough for the doctors to be concerned that one of the varices ruptured. she is getting tests done now and they are in the process of considering transfering her to another hospital. needless to say, the doctor isn't opptomistic at this point and from what he said about her liver, it sounds as though there is no function left.
i'm a mess. i'm waiting for the phone call from the doc to let me know what hospital she will be in and then i will be making the drive down to nags head.
thank you for all of your support through this. (excuse my spelling mistakes)

thanks....i just called her. her speech was slurred and she really couldn't talk but i could hear her say, the dr's here. so hopefully he will be calling me in a few moments.
i asked her what tests they ran and she said an EKG and another MRI.
EKG's are for your heart, right????

Yes, its to test heart function..lots of times the alcoholic will have heart damage from the excessive drinking.
So sorry you are hurting, shes in th ebest place she could be right now...

you will feel better once you get there i think. it's hard waiting by the phone; the time passes so slowly.
your mom is where they can take care of her. when we were going through my dad's illness i often forgot to take care of myself, so try to remember to do that when you can.
prayers and thoughts are with you.

Jen, everyone's right. She could not be in a better place. Just imagine if she hadn't gone! The problems would still be there, but no one would know, for sure anyway. Knowing there's something wrong is the first step in finding answers. ((J))
