Well, today is, in the US, "Independence Day" -- is in celebration of the day the "Declaration of Independence" was signed and it's regarded as the start of the "Revolutionary War".
In the UK do these events have names?

Nope - mostly I think we're just too damn sarcastic to celebrate much that relates to politics.
I can't even remember if our saints day is a bank holiday. VE (victory in Europe) isn't, nor is rememberence day. We have good ol' pagan May day though!
