hmmm not sure about that one, I think the secret it a good british doughnut is the chocolate.
If we had Krispy Kremes over here I'd be twice the weight I am. The are truly the best doughnuts in the world.
My mouth's watering thinking about them!

Thank God for Google ('cos I couldn't remember who said it)...
"England and America are two countries separated by a common language."--George Bernard Shaw, Irish dramatist & socialist (1856 - 1950)
Some of my fave "Briticisms":
bugger off!
shite! (which I find myself using on the tennis court quite often, in an effort to be polite)
snog
good on ya!
I grew up listening to the Beatles and watching their movies and interviews. Cheeky lads, those. And I believe my first exposure to Monty Python was around age twelve...
I live in the States but am fortunate to have two local friends from across the pond, one a Londoner and the other Liverpudlian.
Cheers!

So very true. Hard to believe.

We used to have something called "fagnet" where I used to work. It was the only place where you could find out all the gossip in the company. If you didn't smoke, you could become an honorary member by lurking with the smokers in the car park.
Shite is one of my favourite words. "It's a bag of shite" is heard quite often around my house. As is "tosser".
And Spirit, you're not wrong. I've been watching Kath and Kim which is hilarious, but I must say that on occasion I don't understand a word that comes out of their mouths.

In Canada, we've picked up both UK and American terms and spellings.
Don't even get me started on accents! I love hearing different English accents on TV - there is nothing sexier than a deep baritone Scottish accent. (think Sean Connery) A nice Virginia drawl is also lovely...

I know very few sayings from Scotland. I have problems understanding the Cockney accent of the London working class. Let alone the Welsh accents and language. The words in Wales. I can't even begin to try and say them. A few examples I can find...aber confluence, river mouth
afon river
bach, fach small
ban, fan peak, crest
blaen head, end, .source
bryn hill
bwlch pass
caer, gaer fort, stronghold
carreg stone, rock
castell castle
cefn ridge
clawdd hedge, ditch, dyke
coch, goch red
Spaghetti Junction near Birmingham,UK.
I will never go on this again. Scared me to death. I had all kinds of new language words while my husband drove this.
