Tonight's the night
After much procrastination I'm going to a meeting tonight.
No messing, no excuses (I've probably got another 1000000 waiting in the wings), I'm really going.
It can't hurt, can it?

Good on you. You've nothing to lose except a couple of hours of your time. And who knows? Maybe you'll get something out of it!
A word of advice after talking to some newcomers recently. Go to 6 before you decide whether they are for you. Every meeting is different - different themes, different mix of people. Also, remember to take what you like and leave the rest. Some of it may be confusing, but don't worry. You've got an advantage because you have been introduced to a lot of stuff by being on here.
Let us know how it goes.

It doesn't hurt. Promise. Make yourself a promise that you will walk away from the meeting with at least 1 positive thing.
Good Luck and keep us informed.

Yay Jane!
You have a lot to gain, and the only thing you've got to lose is an hour of your time. If it doesn't help, at least you gave it a shot. Getting involved in Al-Anon has helped me so much. I went in with an open mind, took some of the suggestions, and that began a powerful journey to healing and wholeness.
It's not a quick fix. But it is a very powerful and lasting fix. If nothing else, it is a place where people care and understand you. And it is a step in the direction of learning to take care of yourself. Remember that if you find something confusing, we are here to help. Hugs, Magic

Bahookie,
Like Minnie said some of the things will be confusing. Being here for awhile really does help to make better sense of it all. I have only been to two meetings so far and the 2nd was much better than the first, so at the very least make it to your second before you decide if you like it or not.

Hey
Update here.
Went to first one, felt sick, was too nervous to listen never mind speak - big meeting, easy to hide
Went to second one last night, felt sick, calmed down enough to be aware of my body tension (and the fact that I still had my coat on) about half way through, listened, learned, identified, even spoke - wee meeting, friendly hugs and reassurance.
My partner is chuffed, supportive and trying really hard to be open with me.
I'm in the right place and I'm excited about the possibilities.
Most of all, though, it feels good for me; I feel like my own hero.
Thank you all for your kind wishes last week, you made such a difference. Maybe next meeting I'll stop feeling sick
Take care and thank you all
Jane

You are your own hero. It will get easier with each meeting. Keep up the good work. You'll wonder why you didn't start attending sooner. And watch the growth!!!

Good job, Jane...
I'm soooooooooooooooo glad you were able to walk through the fear that holds so many people back from embracing and accepting the help that is available in the rooms of Al-Anon.
My guess is that the "sick" feeling will pass at its own pace. At least you've found a safe place to feel your feelings...
I'm proud of you, as I hope you are of yourself!
