Ya'll I have good news
My AH and I have been sepatated for 7 1/2 months now (we agreed to a 6 1/2 month trial). About 2 months ago I told him, without anger, I could not live with his drinking and he had a decision to make. About 6 weeks ago he said he was leaning toward coming home. The therapist said he needed to get on Zanex to cope with the anxity of quiting. He took forever scheduling an appt with a doc "just ot go to talk to him and maybe get his liver checked" At 2 weeks to the deadline (the renewal of his appt lease) he told me he was quitting but that he would like and extra month so that son and I do not have to watch withdrawls. I said, stupidly, "if you are a binge drinker you should not have withdrawls". He told me that he and the counsler had determined that he was lying to himself about being only a binge drinker. Wow I was shocked to hear it and so proud. I asked him and therapist in session about the dangers of him quitting because of me. He stated very eloquently (more eloquently than I can convey here) that while he is quitting for me and son it is really for himself because he wants to be with us and we make him happy. I welled up just typing that. I think the therapist did too. He has been very honest about everything. I know becasue he is a terrible lier. My only concern is that he has not gone to AA even though the therapist has urged it. He quit 5 days ago. He told me yesterday that he was starting to panic a little. I am very proud of him. I talk to him and the therapist daily. Please wish us luck. If all goes well he will be home in Feb. Then we can start counseling for the other stuff. By the way, just so ya'll don't get scared, the other stuff is nit picky typical marriage stuff that we have just let go too far.
