I *do* purge. There is nothing at all from Very First Boyfriend, whom I dated for three years. The pictures were ditched, the gifts, ditto, within a couple weeks of breaking up. With Late AH, who I was planning to divorce, things were vastly different. We did have a lot of good times, and the scrapbooks contain pictures of our lives together, the homes he renovated for us.
I made mistakes with AH, and sometimes didn't treat him as kindly as I could have. I learned a lot from him - and I think the time with him made me a better partner for my Chapter Two fellow.
ETA: Continuing to see her when you've 'checked out' and have no intention of continuing isn't kind to her, either.
