Anyone have book or article suggestions not found in the stickies?

It’s helping me these days post breakup to read and educate myself on alcoholism (wish I’d done this much earlier!) Thought it might be nice to share amongst ourselves, if people have found particular things helpful in their healing/understanding process. I just picked up “Drinking: A Love Story” today second—hand, have heard it’s a good one to read. “Co-dependent No More” is another one I’ve started.

Abandoned.....If you are interested in finding out more about how alcoholism affects the brain....I suggest "The Addicted Brain"....by Michael Kuhar…..
It had the most recent research into these matters...presented in a scholarly way....

Another is "The Science of Addiction"...by Carlton K. Erickson
It is a bit more technical language than the first one I suggested.

How about a video? I found Elizabeth Vargas's story really interesting and informative:

The Making of an Alcoholic

Thanks Dandylion and Trailmix - will definitely check out. The more I read/watch and learn, the more things start to make sense (as much as it can make sense) to me and I feel a little more ok each day. Pretty much coming to accept that there was really nothing I could have done and there was so much I didn’t understand. How could a relationship ever thrive or even do well when one person spent half the time checked out?

might want to have a look at a medical journal article that sums it up nicely

snipet;

Alcohol abuse can cause signs and symptoms of depression, anxiety, psychosis, and antisocial behavior, both during intoxication and during withdrawal. At times, these symptoms and signs cluster, last for weeks, and mimic frank psychiatric disorders (i.e., are alcohol–induced syndromes). These alcohol–related conditions usually disappear after several days or weeks of abstinence. Prematurely labeling these conditions as major depression, panic disorder, schizophrenia, or ASPD can lead to misdiagnosis and inattention to a patient's principal problem—the alcohol abuse or dependence.
