Why Doesn't He See the Hurt?
Don't wait for -- or expect -- an apology. If he really is sober and in recovery he's in bad shape and he may not even get to steps 8 & 9 during the first year. But he's your "X" right? Best to let it all go.

He's my ex, but I don't think we are totally done. I just think he needs time to get his sober feet under him.

rule of thumb is "early" recovery is at the very LEAST one year, based on my own experience, i'd say closer to 2-3 years. and remember, he can't be doing this for YOU, nor should you expect to benefit from HIS recovery.
