A Small Slice of Alcoholism

AH drinks from 6:30 am until dinner every day. This is Mr. Stage 1 Cirrhosis.

Today he leaves home when I do around 2:00. I had to go get DD from school, he said he needed to go to the bank and deposit rent checks for the property he manages.

AH gets home around 4:30. Criticizes what I'm watching on tv (Fair enough - It was Guy Fieri, who I usually hate bc he's so obnoxious, but they were making some dishes that I like). He starts looking like he wants to take a quick cat nap, so I ask him if he wants me to mute the tv. Then he acts all offended and says he's not tired - he's hungry and what do we have to eat??? - - So I make him chips and dip. 10 minutes later, he's out like a light. Zonked.

6:45 pm, he wakes up, asks me what time it is, and then says
"Is Game Day on?" He thought it was Saturday morning. Which perplexed me, because why the eff would I have chips and dip out at 6:45 in the morning? And "Game Day" doesn't even come on until 8 am here......

Then he berates the movie I had on and chides me for "making him feel stupid".

Sorry, dude. I didn't make you feel stupid. You accomplished that all by yourself.

1. Living with active alcoholism (or even early recovery) is tough.

2. I heart Guy Fieri and cooking shows.

3. I have napped late afternoon/early evening and woke up thinking it was the next day.

Big hugs. What's your self care through this?

You deserve kindness and trust in your life. Any ideas on where that shows up? For me, lately, it's been in sooner very unexpected places.

Is there a list of tv shows we must not watch? Once people are saying what we should or shouldn't say, do , watch or think, we are in trouble. After a very hard week at work, i have been known to watch some utter rubbish, but gosh it is good to switch off my brain.
Watch what you like with pride, and enjoy it.

When I was a kid my A dad dictated what radio stations were allowed to be played in our home, also what telly shows were ok and not ok! Only serious and high brow radio and telly was deemed ok.

Other shows were common apparently although it seems it was not common to be rip roaring, rolling drunk talking crap.

When he left, we were able to listen to Radio 1 and watch soaps. Wayhey!

Oh and we were able to get a dog too.

Did we miss the A, nah. We were too busy enjoying our pop music, good telly and walking the dog.

It was funny, when he came to pick us up (drunk) for an access visit, the dog peed on dad's foot!!

Snort!
