Holmes Makes It Right

"We were so close to the family we let certain things slide."

Holmes: "They missed all the red flags."

Anyone watch HGTV? :)

My life feels like a major renovation project. It's going well --- now that I have skills, tools and a great crew of peeps. (Friends, Al-Anon groups, therapist, etc.)

That first bunch (FOO) was untrustworthy and unskilled. I'm glad I started seeing the red flags and listening to them.

You'll have to explain for those of us who cut the cord: Who is Holmes?

I know Holmes and the analogy to a renovation is so accurate! The hidden things you find along the way when you were just gonna replace the drywall :)

Angelina, it's a home renovation show. Mike Holmes is a contractor with great knowledge, skills, family, crew and gets things done. The episode I posted quotes from had a previous shoddy and ill-willed person who caused many problems and did damage to the home. Holmes stripped out the damage that was done. Everything was rebuilt in solid, skilled ways.

This is from a different episode:

dawnrising, I'm starting to be very grateful for the full renovation!! Structurally sound life, with expected good surprises as everything is rebuilt. :)

Holmes get into more than cosmetics when he does a renovation. When he looks at a home he is in inspection mode and not just looking at appearances. Just like Mango noted there are red flags that indicate other troubles. The same could be said with alcoholics and addicts, there red flags beyond a dui or being fired from a job.

Did I get it?

thequest, very well put. Thank you!

In my case it was also my emotionally/psychologically abusive FOO that had many, many red flags. I was very conditioned to overlooking or making excuses for those red flags. In learning more about Alcoholism and how to deal with it, more was revealed with the depth of damage from FOO I previously was unaware of.

I'm healing quickly now. :)

One day at a time.

What I didn't see was hurting me. I'm grateful for clarity and rebuilding.

Funny, I used to watch Holmes and now I don't.

As he has gone along he gets to be more and more of a perfectionist (which is a good thing to have in a contractor).

I kind of like things to be in order but his approach got boring for me. I can only watch so much repair of HVAC and plumbing and dry rot lol

HP stuff. I turned on the TV and those were the words being said. :D

My sponsor showed me how good it can be to pay attention to these kind of things!

I'm grateful for clarity and rebuilding.

An advertisement on the side of a construction rig that pulled up next to me in a parking lot:

"Specializing in new home construction and quality remodel and repair."

Along this theme that means a lot to me, last week it was a huge ad for "Extreme Renovations". :)

Mango, I'm laughing and sighing at the same time.
