Identifying leadership qualities in ourselves and others
"A poor leader is incapable of admitting that there are serious problems, refuses to cut his or her losses, and stubbornly continues in his or her doomed endeavor."
From an article about a massively doomed venture.
This struck me as directly describing active alcoholism.
Having a balance between leading and following has been a frequent theme for me recently. I have simple, easy options for healthy people and examples to follow.

Leadership qualities:
Integrity
Humor through adversities
Perseverance
Ability to shift gears
Willing to change tactics
Easily connecting with people
Self awareness
Strategic planning
Clarity
One of my counselors, my lawyer and several mentors have these qualities. My husband has these qualities when he's been in active recovery.

I think of alcoholism as the ultimate escalation of commitment. They know it’s going nowhere good, but stay the course anyway. And they demonstrate none of the leadership qualities you mentioned.
