She’s actually doing pretty okay. She hasn’t seen him since Saturday (don’t know if they’be had text contact). She knows he didn’t comply with SoberLink and that that means visits are curtailed. She gave me a halfhearted defense of his actions - “I was there and I saw he couldn’t connect with his phone” - and then said she didn’t want to hear anything more about it.

But since then I’ve seen a couple of positive things - she’s responded to overtures from our church youth group leader to go out for ice cream (leader keeps in touch with teens individually) and made plans with my partner to work on a science project on the weekend (her own initiative - “maybe I could ask [partner] for help”. This is better than the self-isolating behavior that has worried me, even though I know it is pretty standard for the teenage state of life. And it’s continuing to build relationships with strong positive models of how to be an adult.

Good for her, and for you too! I say good for her because she is reaching out to others. I say good for you because you are modeling behavior to her of what is and is not acceptable behavior from those you have in your life.

I know it's so hard, but I truly admire you Sasha. You are an excellent mom!
