Typical addict manipulation, I would say, visited upon small children.

Oooffff....yeah, sounds like he is using the children. I'm so sorry. That sort of stuff should never be discussed with the kids, but a mature, reasonable person would know that. As an active alcoholic, he is not a mature, reasonable person.
