This was his thread about the PI -
https://www.soberrecovery.com/forums...estigator.html (Surgery Soon. And She Has A Private Investigator?)

which kinda continued from here.....
https://www.soberrecovery.com/forums...snowflake.html (AW - A Special Snowflake)

... and was also the thread where all the "kitchen island" confusion started....

- but I may have read your post wrong & you were just ribbing tom about his gauze, lol!-

(Longtime lurker here but I don’t post often)

I’m genuinely blown away by the support in this thread. It’s really awesome to see the genuine care you all have for the people on SR.

COD - hope you’re doing well and prayers for a speedy recovery!!

You definitely have some great stories...... but I need to know, were the unicorns the magical kind that fart rainbows?.... I've heard so much about them!

He's hanging in there guys & DS is handling everything well - hopefully he'll be up to posting an update soon.

welp, depends on which surgery. the first one, where i had the lymph nodes carved and ripped out from under my arm, the unicorn walked in lookin like one that would fart sparkles. THEN it turned on me. came over, lifted up my arm to get pillows under it so it was elevated. i KNOW i saw that unicorn change into a fire breathing dragon and laughing as i was seeing stars from the pain!

another surgery(back surgery this time), the unicorn wasnt fartin sparkles, but was real cool. it came in and said,"tom, if you start feeling
pain, push this button."
now, i aint ever had one of them buttons other then to call the nurse,so i THOUGHT thats what the button was for.
nope.
it helped me see REAL sparkle fartin unicorns as i drifted off to lala land!

You know, sometimes it hurts to laugh, but you guys made me LAUGH!!! And, thanks SO SO SO SO much for this thread and the outpouring of support, it really touched my heart.

Here I am, non-loopy, and no fartin' unicorns. In this day and age with the opioid epidemic, it's hard to score REALLY good stuff anymore. Dammit!!!

Making a little progress each day, though slower-going than I would have envisioned. I've had to do the whole "be patient" and "let others help" thing.... not exactly in my wheelhouse of daily coping skills.

DS has been fantastic!! So helpful, so caring. He did get so excited when he was flying his drone and found a trick it could do, he reached out (in excitement) thwacked me right in the stomach - which just about put me right on the ground. The kid felt bad, and I went in and took another pain pill! I still can't bend over far enough to put on socks, so he does that for me every morning. I can tell he wants me to play with him so bad, but he's holding back.

I have zero motivation to do just about anything, which is totally unlike me. I think that, after being "it" for DS and the dog, and the house, and the AW for the past 8 years, I finally have a chance to sit and 'be', and the body and mind said "we're taking advantage of this, you ain't doing squat!". So, I haven't really done squat since Friday. Took naps this weekend, haven't done that in years either - it felt good.

I also said "Thank You God" that it was outpatient surgery - for AW did her usual face-plant on the kitchen island (no lacy anything or feather duster included) and was unavailable for me or DS past 9:30 the entire weekend. I slept with wool socks on because I couldn't take them off by myself. I asked her point-blank: "Could you please come to bed when I do so you can help me or DS if necessary?" "Sure" was the answer - reality was quite different. But, I kinda expected it, sadly.

The weekend was funny, it was all I could do not to laugh in her face. So, on Saturdays I vacuum, do all the laundry, make meals, clean up the house, take dog on several long walks, play with Kid, etc. This past weekend - couldn't do any of it, obviously. So, she did most of it. Kid was at a friend's house half the day, and she did most of what I normally do. OMG - you'd have thought that she ran a marathon and cured cancer, all in the same day! Complaining about how tired she was, how sore she was, etc. Now, I'm 14 years older than her, and she makes cracks about my age. But I dare not say that she's getting older, or that what she did is what I do EVERY stinkin' weekend!! I did find it funny, and even funnier on meds.

You guys are awesome, thanks again for the prayers, well-wishes, and the comic relief! I'm going to logoff now, but will try to get back on, maybe tomorrow. Need to go stretch out on the couch and do 'nothing'.....

Happy Blessed Easter, everyone!!!

COD

This is the greatest update on earth COD! Im so glad that you are doing nothing and guess what the world is still turning. Wishing you a healthy recovery and more enjoyable time with your son, as well as an enjoyable "show"pit on by AW I can hear the Benny Hill music in my head.
