In the spirit of full disclosure, I oscillate between missing the good mini-moments that once were and full rage at what it became. So I understand the struggle to maintain perspective, particularly in the face of repeated verbal rubbish from the addict -- some very hurtful verbal rubbish. I even had someone tell me today, "maybe it might help you to get past this if you just remembered the good times." Umm, no. No no no. You need to see him for what he is now: a person who is saying crazy stuff ALL the time because their brain has gone on vacation (likely forever or at least for longer than you have time in life to waste). If he is not sober, he is not sober. Full stop.
