OT----Watching the Eagle Cam?

I wonder if anyone else is still watching the Eagle cam?
I have gotten hooked on it since he/she was hatched.....
I have the sound turned on, on my computer, all the time....and, when the first light is in the sky, in the morning, I wake up to the loud chirping!
sort of like having the rooster, on the farm...that crows at dawn.....
Anyone here live at Fort Meyer, fla?.......
I think it is a kind of miracle that birds in florida can wake me up every morning, in Virginia/DC......

I used to watch that Owl Cam from Oklahoma, I see there is no nest in OK right now.

Does one of the parents stay with the chick all the time?

What time does dinner arrive?

I like to still check in when I can. I think the unhatched egg was not viable? What is going on with that egg? Is the fluffy baby getting ready to fledge yet? I heard it happens at like only 10 days old!!

I've been hooked on this for a while as well. I also suggest explore.org, so many great live cams...lots of wildlife and also puppies and kittens! Definitely a pick me up

Refiner....the other egg is definitely not viable. Has not been for a long time. It is said that the egg will, eventually get incorportated down into the nest (somehow).
It appears that he eats about ever hour or so. I have seen fish on the side of the nest, every day. They go through a lot of fish!
He is alone in the nest for short periods of time, it seems...when the parents are "changing the guard"....lol....
I really don't know how long it will take him to fledge....have to look that up....
It is astounding, how, I can literally see him developing, day to day....really fast!
They must have a really rapid metabolism. When the camera goes in close...it show his breathing very rapidly. I remember that chickens have a body temperature of about 104 F. Lol...on my gradnmothers farm...I spent a lot of time with the chickens....and I loved to put my hands under their feathers and feel how hot they were.....
I was always warned to leave the "sitting hens" alone...but, I often disobeyed her.......

JP519....I love animal videos. Whenever I just want to switch off my brain....I sometimes go to youtube videos....especially the ones of cats and kittens...other ones, also. After a while....I have forgotten the "clutter" in my brain....and I am calmed by the wonder of Nature and the rejuvenation of seeing new life....
Thanks! I will definitely check out explore.com......

I too check in from time to time to watch
the Eagles thru out the past few yrs. Watching
the hatching, them growing, fledging, remodeling
the nest, the different seasons, sible rivalry if
there are 2 babies in the nest.

It's a good education lesson for all of
us and children in school too.

It's amazing how fast the little Eaglet has
grown in just a week. Just amazing to watch.

Refiner,

The bald eagles near me usually hatch in early Feb. and fledge in late May. They get as large as the adults before they leave the nest. It's comical to see them run across the nest and flap their wings practicing for their flight.

I saw one fly by this morning.

Thanks for recommending Dandy. Their nests look messy from the ground, but they have a lovely comfortable platform when you see it from above.
Do eagle parent in pairs?

FeelingGreat......Yes, they do.....It s hard to tell if the mother or father is on the nest....the differences in appearance are very subtle......
Apparently, this particular nest has had some structural issues, in the past and had to be repaired by the eagles. There was a big battle in the past with some owls.....and she lost her first husband (Ozzie)...(Killed by an owl?)......This is her, Harriet's, second husband......

With eagles, the female is larger - according to the raptor keepers at my local zoo.

If that is the case with this family then in the last couple days the female has been the one to spend the most time with the chick. The male brought fish yesterday afternoon and the three of them ate together, it was sweet. I could definitely see a size difference.

That egg was almost buried yesterday, no idea how it resurfaced. She kept pulling up pieces of the flooring and covering it yesterday.
