Yes, again, that is a real thing. Are you getting Dr advice? When the liver gets bad there are changes in the brain that make people confused, hopefully that's not your problem but if it is you can likely rejuvenate your liver, and your thinking then.

Long term, like years, of alcohol consumption can do a number on brain cells as well as major organs. Probably you should look at how much you are drinking, talk to your doc. Maybe the confusion is related to drinking, , maybe not. See your physician, and be honest. Good luck.

I think this was happening to my ex (blackouts, complete personality change as if he got possessed, demented at 48). He used to be functioning. Functioning alcoholism is only a phase.

One of the things researchers are finding is that the symptoms of dementia or altzheimer's in alcohol dependent people can be masked by their drinking. There is a ton of studies being done about dementia and alcohol or substance abuse. Good luck.

Alcohol abuse damages the brain along with other organs. Memory is often the first obvious casualty.

Memory problems are very common in alcoholism......
However.....many other things can cause "confusion" and memory loss.....
To be precise....confusion and memory loss are separate things..and they can also occur together.

Alcoholism is not the only thing that can cause this...however....

I saw lots of memory loss with my alcoholic....

Could you give a better description of what you are talking about....?
