Eight years today!

I posted over on the Alcoholism forum--I don't post there a whole lot anymore. I use AA for my recovery and even though I know many people who have achieved great sobriety without it, I sometimes have trouble restraining myself from getting on a soapbox, lol.

Anyway, feeling very grateful for eight years of my life that I would have lost if I hadn't made the decision to say goodbye to alcohol for good. Not drinking has never been a struggle for me (apart from maybe the first days/weeks), but living life sober has had its challenges! I feel like I recently finally passed a plateau I've been on for the past few years. Feeling more centered and present on a daily basis.

Thanks to all of you for being part of my journey. What I learned in Al-Anon has helped me on a daily basis in coping with the other people in my life--alcoholic or not. :)

Congratulations on eight years! I know what you mean about being centered and mindful, it's a process.

You give more than you get Lexie.

Your recipe of right things, that combo of AA, and Alanon, and Sober Recovery, etc., is benefiting us as much as it's benefiting you. Thank you.

And Congratulations!

Congratulations on your 8 years sober, Lexie--I love the combination of straightforwardness, humor and wisdom in your posts and I'm so glad you have the life you have now . What a loss it would have been for so many people if you hadn't chosen recovery.

Let me take this opportunity to thank you for all the help I've received from you, directly or indirectly, over the time I've spent on SR. Your sobriety has made a difference in my life, too.

So happy for you Lexi, you must be very proud!!

With that accomplishment, you Continue to practice AA's 12 steps:

Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

Congratulations!!

LexieCat 08-28-2016 08:45 AM

Well, I try to be "grateful" rather than "proud." I'm not trying to be falsely humble--of course, nobody makes it for eight years by doing all the wrong things. Just happy to be where I am in life, for the most part.
