I need some help with book recommendations to add to the stickies
I have book recommendations spread all over the forum. Which makes it impossible for peeps to find _any_ one book recommendation at all. So I am starting a "Book sticky"
http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...d-members.html
If you all would help me out and just post recommendations for books on this thread I will build up the sticky.
thanks

not a book - but these free podcasts are amazing:
CNM 001: Introduction | Our Story of Codependency Recovery - Codependency No More
Then Conquering Codependency and Shame by Diane Lancer changed my life.
One of the podcasts is an interview with her - and then I bought the book.
AMAZING!

Thanks Mike so much for starting this thread.
I hope you don't mind if I add these titles that Mike will be using for your Sticky to our Book List in Newcomers. We have a section for Codependency and I'm thrilled to add more titles. Please take a look if you like, and keep giving me new titles to add.

Alcoholics Anonymous (AKA "The Big Book")
Al-Anon literature: How Al-Anon Works, Paths to Recovery, Courage to Change, One Day at a Time in Al-Anon
One Breath at a Time by Kevin Griffin. This is aimed at alcoholics, but it can be very helpful to anyone in recovery who is challenged by the "God thing"--the author is a practicing Buddhist and an atheist (Buddhism is an a-theistic religion--no god (at least none universally recognized)). This shows how the Steps are relevant and can be practiced even if you don't believe in a supreme being.

Thanks everyone! I have added all the titles mentioned here, so far. There is a separate section for Biographies, so The Glass Castle is listed there, rather than in Codependency. I hope you continue to offer suggestions.

Great thread all:
I'm always suggesting a book on grief. So far, I haven't found anyone who has read it but it was one of the planks in my survival raft when I left my qualifier.
How to Survive the Loss of a Love. It was written by several people in the 60s or 70s but is pretty timeless.

The Shack - William Paul Young
Perfect Daughters - Robert Ackerman (for adult daughters of alcoholics)
The Fifth Agreement - (to compliment the first book) - Don Miguel Ruiz
Who Moved My Cheese - Spencer Johnson (great parable on dealing with change)
Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom - Christiane Northrup MD (the best book for women's health, crucial for me because my recovery involved so much rebuilding of my overall health.)
The Tao of Pooh - Benjamin Hoff
Brene Brown's entire body of work - not recovery specific, but incredibly helpful for wholehearted living & addresses a lot of codependent behaviors like perfectionism, etc.
The Gifts of Imperfection
I Thought It Was Just Me (but it isn't)
The Power of Vulnerability (audio CD/lecture)
Daring Greatly
Rising Strong

Codependent No More by Melody Beattie is one book I read over and over again.
Also, by the same author, Language of Letting Go, a book of daily readings that kept me going for many years.
Thanks for doing this, Mike.
