Thanks GOD your beloved doggy is not lost! What a loser he is! And GOOD for you to go for custody of both doggies! Use this as an example of why he can't be trusted with them. a) he gets drunk and can't be responsible for them and b) if he says the dog wasn't even lost then you know he's using the dogs as bait for you... when might that turn into him harming them????? GO FOR IT.

I used to board my dog with the vet when I traveled for just that reason. It would have hurt me much more than him if something happened. Saved my peace of mind and to me it was worth the money.

You are all right. Whatever happened, I do not trust him to keep the dogs safe and I want them with me full time.

To get that email in the middle of the night, 4900 miles from home, and being able to do absolutely NOTHING about it drove me to sheer panic.
