And yes, it does hurt,
Being second to the bottle,
And the last thing on your mind,
Causes me devastation and despair,
That you could possibly be so oblivious,
So dismissive of the pain and frustration,
You cause my heart and soul,
I often think of you when I am sitting alone,
I think of those moments when you were sober,
How distant and detached from the world you are,
What is it that you hide,
And yes, it does hurt,
That when sober you say nothing,
But drunk I cannot inhibit your babbling,
Not just your babbling,
But your pestering and helplessness,
Often I sit in a far corner,
Wishing that it did not have to be this way,
I sit there hiding,
If I only I could just disappear at this moment,
I would turn into a molecule,
Tiny enough to float into your heart,
And mend the broken pieces,
That send you to the bottle,
And yes, it does hurt,
That there is nothing I can do,
That I must leave you behind,
That you may eventually figure it out on your own,
Then maybe I can come back to you,
But until you change,
I must take of myself,
And no, it does not hurt,
To finally stop hiding in corners,
To put myself first instead of second to you,
To float into my own mind,
And discover me without you,
To put the past behind,
And look forward to a brighter day,
No, it doesnt hurt at all.

Thanks for the poem. When I read it, my AH and I were both sitting on the couch working on our computers. I started crying and he asked me what was wrong. I read him the poem and cried even more. It is so true....too true.
