Sounds like things are escalating with the drinking.

Just because he has been providing and being a good dad in the past
does not mean he will continue to do so.

An alcoholic parent has a very negative impact on children.
I grew up with one, and now I'm alcoholic as well as having serious
trust issues in relationships--much of this stems from not feeling
secure as a child and learning that alcohol is how you deal with problems
from my mother.

I'm sorry you and your kids are putting up with this.
I hope you can see your way to changing the situation as you are the
only responsible, non-addicted adult in the family dynamic at the moment.
Good job getting out and away for a break.
