Validate My Feelings
I like what you posted about 1st and 2nd (and successive) thoughts. It's so true! And, I think part of overcoming addiction is learning how to recognize those tempting/destructive "first thoughts" and stop it from 'multiplying' and moving on to using. This involves a CHANGE in thought patterns. I've believed for a long time now that our 'thinking' and our thoughts lead to actions and behaviors. So, perhaps one of the most important challenges known to mankind is to be able to CHANGE our thinking in a good way.

Stung, I agree with you. Alcoholism really is more like diabetes, and I've used that analogy myself more than once. It can be controlled but never cured.
I recently had a conversation with RAH about the choice to drink. According to him, and I think this makes sense, the first drink is always a choice. Any drink after the first is probably not. That first drink kicks off the obsession and lets the beast out of it's cage, and they're off to the races!
Although I think your sponsor may not be a great match for you, I do think her suggestion about going to go to an open AA meeting is not a bad one. I've been to many myself. I started going because I was looking for a better understanding of RAH, and I was curious. What I found was that these meetings helped ME to trade my anger and resentments for compassion and understanding. This helped me as much as my Alanon meetings believe it or not.
