Thomas Merton quote
Rereading some Thomas Merton, and stumbled again upon a quote I had underlined. Thought I'd share it here:
The best way to love ourselves is to love others, yet we cannot love others unless we love ourselves since it is written, "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself." But if we love ourselves in the wrong way, we become incapable of loving anybody else.
This quote speaks to me of myself, of my ex, of co-dependency, of addiction, of abuse.... Kind of wraps the whole lot stock and barrel up in a nice little package.
