rock cotton has arrived.

Well. Up until now I didn't quite realise the extent of how low he would go but it's here. I got in from work looking forward to a relaxing 4hours before his shift at the pub finished but he came in not long after me in a wild teary state saying his (estranged) stepmum had called him n said his Dad (even more estranged and hated for yrs of apparent abuse as a chIld) had died this morning!
He was also carrying a juice bottle with remnants of strong vodka n coke. He got all emotional I comforted. He called his mum(divorced and remarried)and told her n then called his brother, who promptly called me n asked me what the he'll was going on. I said I had no clue n would wait til he was sober to find out. Discussion about his drinking followed with brother.
Brother called_ me back said just spoken to dad he's alive n well. Livid all round.
He denied being drunk n I walked out with dog
Jus. Going home now

Oh lord! Like somehow he convinced himself that his fear of not tending to that broken relationship could lead to his dad's death. Or was it really just a lie? Either way, wow!!! Enjoy your very long dog walk!

:( wow.
that's pretty bad. I hope the walk helps clear your head.

this story reminded me of a friend (a GF that I met years ago at my first stint in local detox) - she is a chronic relapser, a very bad one too. When she falls, she falls hard.
A few months ago - I get a random text from her (after a few mths of very limited contact - a text here n there) saying she has pancreatic cancer. (She is blind in one eye from a bad bout of pancreatitis years ago)....I rushed to her apt. to see her after work, I was devastated. Found her totally hammered. She proceeds to tell me she has cancer, her twin is going to donate a kidney, her gramma passed AND she is pregnant.

I found out about 30min later when the BF showed up - none of it was true. :(
yah. unreal.

Wow... At least you got the truth fairly quickly...???... My AXH lied about having cancer and kept up the charade for weeks, even when he hadn't had a drink, by having me or the friend he was crashing with drop him off at the hospital campus where they do chemo and radiation therapy. He even said he had a treatment appointment the morning of DS's (then age 3) surgery, and had me drop him off at the center on my way to DS's appointment.

It's horrid finding out they fabricated something that serious. I'm sorry you had to deal with that.

My cousin who died at 32 from liver failure also made up that he had cancer, and had people convinced he was getting the best treatment at Sloan Kettering. His closest family, including myself, did not believe him because we knew he was a pathological liar. What we didn't know was that his liver was functioning at less than 10% because he hid a lot of his drinking from us. He actually took me aside at a family gathering once and told me how hurt he was that I didn't call him when I found out he had cancer. I told him that none of us believed him but that if he truly does I was sorry and I loved him. It is still hard to think about everything that happened in the months before his death, but I think he wanted sympathy because he knew he was dying but he didn't want to admit why he was dying. He didn't want to come out and say "I probably only have a few months left because I drink bottles of vodka every day".

Good lord. Nothing shocks me anymore, but it really is incredible what they will come up with.

My ex business associate swore up and down that he had a rare form of cellulitis. He really had HIV which I kinda thought, but the stories that he went on an on about regarding Doctors visits and specialists and how this cellulitis was found in only 1 in 100k people was beyond ridiculous. He would leave to go "to the doctor" and I would see him drive to the bar across the street. Coulda tried a bit harder by going to the bar behind my studio where I couldn't see.
