How would you respond?
I liked what Hammer wrote, too!
HMy husband pulled this on me too. He got fired from his job and said God apparently didn't mean for him to have that job. I asked if God had told him to go out and get drunk and high the night before and husband said 'well, He didn't stop me.' It's quacking. You could respond with God helps those who help themselves but that would be for your benefit, not his. When my husband said crap like that I knew I was on my own and planned accordingly. Easy? No. Essential? Yes.
And it doesn't sound like he is working with a sponsor. No sponsor is going to suggest waiting for a sign from God. There is a whole chapter in the Big Book entitled 'Into Action.' Nowhere in AA literature does it say sit around on your posterior, waiting for a sign. I am a double winner and can safely say that this is a bunch of b.s. He's just looking for an easy out.
