To the Newcomers and those still ‘lurking’....
… Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and welcome to SoberRecovery’s Friends and Family of Alcoholics sub-forum!
The holidays can be a wonderful, joyful, and peaceful time of year. But for those of us who love someone who is addicted to alcohol or other substances it can be an especially painful, anxious, and dark time. All kinds of pressures can begin to mount up at this time of year.
You have found a place where you are among friends.
We really and truly do understand exactly what you have been going through.
We don’t think you are crazy and we can assure you, you are not alone!
Welcome!! Although so very sorry for the reasons why, we are glad you found us!

- We put pressure on ourselves to be perfect.
- We are sometimes pressured by our loved ones put on a ‘good show’ for the world and keep the ‘family secret’—because addiction thrives in secrecy.
- We put pressure on ourselves to solve all the problems for everyone we love, and if we can’t solve them it can drive us even further into depression and anxiety (BTDT, bought the t-shirt).
