Need advise please
"I wondered if I'd be drooling in front of the telly after all those years of drinking."
I should qualify this--I do drool in front of the telly now but only watching the cooking channel or George Clooney
(or slightly younger Sean Connery)

Girl..there are tons of traditions you can make. Start with breakfast and jammies. Get everyone matching jammies to wear all day. Make a tradition that every person cooks his or her favorite dish and have a little trial buffet. Board Games! Xmas movies.
My kids (9, 15 yo) LOVE to go out in said jammies in the car and look at Xmas lights. This year said 15 yo will drive us b/c she has her permit...yikes! We will also go through the McDonalds drive through and order White Hot Chocolate for the drive...yum!
So you can still keep in the old traditions and mix other stuff in to keep you busy but in a fun way!

Sounds like you have a lovely day and the White chocolate hot chocolate sounds delicious and I so want one lol. McDonald's here doesn't have those and it's certainly not open Christmas Day
I never missed AXH at any holiday, so I'm afraid I don't have much in the way of advice. For me, it was just a relief to have a holiday centered on the kids, free from alcohol, not having to worry about whether the kids reacted "correctly" to his gifts; whether I would be able to smile wide enough at the present of a bottle of vodka (I don't ever drink vodka), etc.
For me, being away from AXH for Christmas was wonderful. I felt like a little kid again.
