If you're not sure if an attachment is safe, click on it with your RIGHT mouse key and save it to your desktop on your hard drive. DO NOT open it. Right click on it again and it will give you a choice of scanning it for viruses. You should always have a virus scanner on your computer and it should always be updated to the latest viruses that are out there. You should never turn it off. It's saved my rear many times. I use Norton Antivirus but McAfee is good too.

Be very careful with these emails. I had one come to me that said it was from my cousin Angie. I opened the email and it read" Hi, I thought you might like this website" and it had a link so I clicked onto it and big red letters said I had just been infected with a worm. The next thing I knew, i was getting 400-500 returned email notices a day. I never even sent these notices out. I ended up having to purchase a new virus scan and firewall. Of course I blamed my husband and told him it was all those porn websites he visited. That was one way to get him off those sites!
I can only ad this. get ad-aware 6.0 this will find the spy ware, I use avast as my antivirus, and it catches more thenmcafee and norton, as norton is a memory hog... just my opinion here. As for virus, you can get a virus from a webpage, from an attachment, and even new ones are coming from people you know, so be extra careful. I like my email program, because I can bounce an email back to the sender and they dont even know if I opened it! As for people having your email, I dont think this forum gives out your email, just a link TO email you IF you post it in your profile, thats what I got anyways... Just thought I would ad that.... as a computer major, I always get asked questions like that sort of stuff... also be sure to clear your history, and internet options( cookies, delete files, even offline content) on a regular basis, especially surfing the web alot.. you can find this by opening internet explorer, and in the tool bar, by the favorites, it will say tools, click tools, then internet options.. there you will see delete cookies, delete files( these are your temp internet files) good idea to set your history to 1 day as well. Just some friendly advice!
there are programs that can crawl through websites and find email addresses. I work at a school and it is our policy to include all teachers' email addresses on our webpage to be available to parents but unfortunately then we are open to all kinds of span from these web crawlers. They harvest out email addresses. So it could be this site or another one.
