But what does it MEAN???
But what does it MEAN???
heard the best quote ever tonite on an NCIS re-run....and it made me think about how "we" try so hard sometimes to break down statements or actions by those "others" and mire ourselves in minutiae, arguing over verb tense or tone of voice. and many times we have leapt right over the obvious.
NCIS team comes in possession of a head of a fairly recently deceased person, delivered to them IN a box, and are trying to determine what happened to said owner of the head and what it MEANS.
Abby Scuito: Where I come from, when you get a decapitated head in a box, and it shows sign of torture and it's radioactive, it means BACK OFF.
just cuts to the chase. whatever else MIGHT be behind it, or what events led up to the head in the box, the first thing one needs to do is GET AWAY FROM IT. toxic, deadly, radioactive. you don't argue or rationalize, you get distance, take cover and PROTECT yourself.

Good point.
I spent the better part of my life trying to analyze the motives behind people's actions. These days, ain't nobody got time for that. I judge people by their actions. You act like a chopped off radioactive head in a box, dang straight I'm gonna make a beeline out the door.

Just out of curiosity, how did they know it was radioactive? I mean, the most alert and observant investigators I know wouldn't be likely to whip out a Geiger counter if they got a severed head in a box. They may not be MEs, but the head-severing wouldn't suggest that they do a whole lot of examination to determine cause of death or anything.
(Don't watch much TV anymore and I find most cop shows irritating because jurors watch them and think that in REAL LIFE they get DNA at every crime scene that will prove, definitively, whodunnit)
(but yeah, it wouldn't suggest a whole lot of introspection would be needed, either)

welp, it IS a TV show, not reality, and I wasn't paying attention to the whole thing, but Dr Mallard and Palmer where in autopsy and had a Geiger counter thingie....as they only had a head to go with they may have been trying all options? but that was so not the point.........
Lol, I know it wasn't the point. Those little plot holes just bug me. I'm a Walking Dead fan, though, and get hung up on zombie logic, too.
I'm in absolute agreement, however, that such a thing should be run from.

So then, the consensus is that I shouldn't poke a stick at the head in the box? But I really wanna poke a stick at the head in the box. I think I can get it to change.
Then again, I use to poke a stick at my STBXAH when he was passed out on the sofa. Didn't have much effect.
He was radioactive too, by the way. At least he smelled like he was.

1) Holy crap, my mom is the total rationalizer of bad of behavior. "Well, your dad was abused as a child by his alcoholic parents and ended up being raised by other people, who were totally mean to him, too. That's why he's a volatile jerk."
Bottom line: volatile jerk=unacceptable
2) Only now as a 30 something adult can I say, "wait, I don't care *why* this happened, it shouldn't happen and is unacceptable."
3) I really wanna watch Barton Fink, is it good?

Laughing...great insight plus I saw that rerun too (too many times) and yep...got the point!!! I do watch CSI and NCIS because I LOVE seeing them exercise their special powers on TV and try to remember that I don't have those, never did...and never will...it is a process!

I think we should fall in love with said head, take it home, marry it, have kids, and if things do not work out, then try therapy and wonder why?

so wait wait wait. . I love this post and I love the comments but I have a question...
Aren't we supposed to figure out what "they" mean and what "they" say so we know how to get better?
I have learned alot about my A's behavior through this site and reading and therapy so I know better how to react (or better yet - not react to it) and to figure out that he is a big quacker.
Is that not what I am supposed to be doing?
