Good observations.

The AA Big Book broke things up along just about those same four levels. In the Chapter #8, called To Wives (yeah, I know, I know, written some 80 years ago, and assumed most A's were men)

May be interesting for you to compare.

I am really pleased I discussed the situation with my daughter. Together we have discovered that the subject is not taboo any more. What we now need to do is to try and get my wife to accept that she has a drink problem. You will all know that this is the difficult bit, any advice on how we can start this process off would be welcome.
Our kids have been great, and loved Alateen, too.

As far as your wife and her "accepting" it. She already knows. We now play this same game at our house. Just the next layer in. Mrs. Hammer pretends she does not have a Mental Illness. When you get further into this, many A's have Mental Illnesses they are using their various addictions to self-medicate.
