I'm so sorry for you and your kids loss. It is a baffling disease, one that many do not seek treatment for. Which as a nurse, makes me cringe. Take care of yourself and your children. Thoughts and prayers for your family.....peace

I am so sorry that you have had to experience this loss. Alcoholism is only curable if the alcoholic wants to be cured and for some the grip it has is impossible to break. Please take care of yourself and your children as you grieve the loss of their mother.

May God bless you and your children and welcome your ex to her new resting place.

In June I was at an AA meeting. At the beginning of the meeting the Chair always asks if anyone is celebrating a sobriety birthday in that month.

A woman spoke up, saying it was her sister's eleventh year sobriety birthday. She shared that her sister had died of the disease eleven years ago, so that was her sobriety day. Finally at peace. That was one of the most powerful things I've heard at an AA meeting.

I hope you and your family are also able to find peace. So sorry for your loss.

I've so very sorry for your loss and for your children's loss.

Mr. B., I am so sorry her life ended like that. And I am so sorry for all the things you are now having to sort through in your head and with your children.

Reading your post, I realized something I have never realized before about the A in my life, the father of my children. Even though he is not in their life, or in mine, and that we are all not just fine with but better because of it -- I will never stop hoping.

Just like you somewhere never gave up hope that she would find sobriety.

I don't know why some do and some don't. I'm just very sorry she didn't.

I am so very sorry for your loss and the pain your family is going through. I pray you find the strength to get through the coming days, and to support your kids through this time.
Your post is the realisation of all of our fears, and reinforces that this horrible disease is terminal without commitment and treatment xx

Mr. B, I'm very glad you shared what was in your heart. I hope it helps in some small way to lessen your pain, knowing others understand and care.

I've been on both sides of this thing. I lost my husband many years ago - he'd been drinking since he was 15, and at 50 his body just gave up. It broke his heart to know he'd lost me and our son, yet he was never able to put any sober time together. I still love him and miss the person I know he truly was inside. It sounds like you did everything possible to support her - and to give your children a stable life without being subjected to the ups and downs of an active alcoholic.

I hope you will continue to post here if it helps. Prayers are going up for you and your children to be comforted.
