Songs...

Man...country music glorifies having a good time.

But are there any songs that come to the top of the mind that help YOU (personally) with this process we are going through.

About the lies, the pain, the suffering?

The one that comes to mind is Bowling For Soup's "my alcoholic girlfriend"

But that's kind of an upbeat funny song. Harsh, but true. Are there anymore out there?

Side note...

When we were in our relationship "who you are" by Cary Brothers was my anthem about her and my relationship with her.

Now its a sad reminder of what could've been.

I love the first song on this video…it is about being in a tortured relationship, knowing it is damaging and that we are staying for the wrong reasons, but being stuck…it is called Stay by Rhianna. I love the line "it's not something you take, it's given". "the reason I hold on, cuz I need this hole gone".

And this…Jason Isabel, about getting sober.
"I was so sure, I needed more"

Jason Isbell on Austin City Limits "Cover Me Up" - YouTube

This was one of my favorite songs when I first got sober.
If you like country you probably already know it!

I love Christian rock. This song became my inpatient anthem. Just listen to it a moment. If it doesn't grab you.....well the. I don't know about you.

Good topic, Lostinwildernes. I love country music - all eras. I have been annoyed lately that every almost every song is about beer. Now I am not an A and I can drink. I like beer. My ABF has been married to beer for decades and he loves country music He's always related to country songs. With the beer songs he can almost live a life like those songs are about!! Anyway I would be annoyed about all these beer songs whether I had an A in my life or not. Just think it is lazy, copy-cat stuff but hey....if people like it ....and I find some songs fun/catchy and I am not being prude.

Music was maybe the best thing about my relationship with ABF We both love all kinds of music and almost always love the same songs. He also plays guitar, sings, writes music. Super talented. He loved to drink, build a fire and I would get my own private concert. I loved it ....but I can't love it 3+ nights a week. I can't love it as over the years he sometimes the concert was only 1-2 songs because he was just too drunk to play. Or smash a guitar or give one away or lose it.

I loved music since I was a kid. Music has always gotten thru hardships, etc. I have not listened to music since ABF left 9 days ago. Even when driving I am not turning the radio on. I know almost every song on any station will remind me of him, us, etc

Am I just punishing myself now? I think it will pass in time. Why do we do this to ourselves? I know he hasn't had a moment without music and is playing guitar for his new AGF. Same songs he sang to me, etc. No problem there for him.

Ammendum:

This is a song that is helping right now...

Everclear. Now that its over.
(Lyrics Explicit)

Break down, shake for me
Nothing ever is the way you want it to be
Nothing even tastes right now that it's over

Break down, shake for me
Don't write words unless you want me to read them
Nothing really matters now that it's over

Maybe we can be friends
Now that we're older
We can have fun like we did in the early days
Now that it's over

Yeah right!

Break down, shake for me
Nothing ever seems the way it ought to be
Nothing ever seems right now that it's over

Yeah, now maybe we can be friends
Maybe we can be closer
We can have fun like we did in the old days
Now that it's over

Oh yeah...

My bad dreams just don't seem the same
Baby without you
I wish you were willing to accept the blame
Yeah, for everything you do

My nightmares just don't scare me now
Baby without you, yeah yeah
I wish that I could find the words to tell
In the best way possible, you and your friends to go to hell

Yeah right!

Whoa, breakup time is never easy to do
Nothing ever ends the way you want it to
Nothing seems to make sense now that it's over

Yeah, now maybe we can be friends
Yeah, now that you're leaving
You can be nice to me
Maybe I'm dreaming
I am a lot better now than just okay
Maybe I am just wakin' up in my own way
Now that it's over
Now that it's over

My bad dreams just don't seem the same
Baby without you
I wish you were willing to accept the blame
Yeah, for all the ****** things you do

Nightmares just don't scare me now
Baby without you
I wish that I could find the words to tell
You to politely go **** yourself
Yeah, now that it's over...

I think if I could only pick one, it would likely be Fiona Apple's "Sleep to Dream":

And there was a great thread about this not long ago:

Since December I think Jack Johnson's Cocoon has been my most played song and I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not but it sure does resonate with me.

Now, as for what helps me during this very painful process of coping with having an alcoholic husband, that would be B. Dub covering Rapper's Delight. Because laughter is healing.

The one song that really explained what this is like better than I ever could
is (Drinking Problem) by Lori Mckenna from the perspective of a person who loves an alcoholic one of the verses is (No , I never touch the stuff but honey I'll tell you what you cant count All the ways it touches me with every bottle you bring home leaves me feeling that much more alone)
