~Twelve Steps I Took~ (poem)
~Twelve Steps I Took~
I took one Step... began to moan
I can't do this on my own.
I took two Steps... began to pray,
God, please restore me today.
I took three Steps... gave up my will;
Maybe God loves me still.
I took a Fourth... I looked inside,
Nothing more would I hide.
And on the Fifth... I said aloud,
"I've done some wrong, and I'm not proud."
I took six Steps... and got prepared
To lose the defects... I was scared.
Now I'm at Seven... take them away
Today, Dear God, for this I pray.
And on Eight... the list was long,
Amends to make for all the wrong.
I took nine Steps.. put down my pride;
Forgiveness asked, I will not hide.
Ten Steps I take... each day I pray...
I make amends along the way.
And on Eleven... I prayed to know
His Will each day, which way to go.
I took twelve Steps... I'm like a bird
To others now, I spread the word!

That is a beautiful poem. And the steps are wonderful when they are worked. Many newcomers get confused or overwhelmed at what exactly these steps mean.
The short answer is that they mean we can and will have a beautiful life if we practice these steps in our daily life.
The longer answer is something a sponsor can explain, slowly and at whatever rate is appropriate for the sponsee. It isn't 12 steps in 12 days, get your diploma and run. It is learning to live a healthy spiritual life.
Thanks for posting this.

Hi Ladies
I've been reading the steps today, I took a few al-anon books out of the library. I have a feeling its going to take me a long, long time, but I am slowly learning.
I printed out the steps from the site you posted Ann. I do need to make the time to study every day though, educate myself.
Oh well, I am off to bed (isn't that absurd, 10 on a Sat night <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> ).
Have a good night and see if you if I wake up in the middle of the night if you are here.
Many hugs.
Love,
Debbie
