My husband is yellow!
Last Sunday, my husband stopped drinking. Two days later, his skin was yellow and it still is. Is it common to get jaundice AFTER quitting? I am very worried about him. He travels for work and hasn't had a chance to see his dr. The Earliest he will be able to go is Wednesday.
Yep, when the liver stops working, the jaundice appears. He can still probably come back from this if he gets medical attention immediately. The liver is an amazing organ and can regenerate if it isn't cirrhotic.
Hi,
I can't give any medical advice based on the Sober Recovery guidelines.
I had a friend who stopped drinking because of an alcohol related incident that landed her in the hospital. She was yellow during her stay at the hospital. She had cirrhosis of her liver. Turns out she had been diagnosed with cirrhosis years before the current incident that landed her in the hospital. She quit drinking after the original diagnosis, but picked it up again years later. When she was discharged, she wasn't ready to quit drinking. She was 40 and her family moved her to their home when she was discharged. I don't know her outcome as she stopped all contact.
I hope your husband seeks medical attention, and I hope he is honest with his doctor.

There are other causes of jaundice that may not even be related to drinking such as obstruction of the biliary ducts from gallstones, pancreatic cancer or other type of liver problems such as viral hepatitis or medication induced hepatitis to name just a few. One can even turn yellow from eating too many carotene containing foods like carrots. He needs to see his doctor for a diagnosis.
turning yellow is nothing to play with
also should be for some of the fortunate ones
a time in which to make a decision not to drink anymore
yes when our bodies are talking to us
we had better listen
I have had more than one close friend die from liver disease
on this early morning
I prefer not to talk about what I witnessed in their last days, and months
